Expected Biden executive order on abortion rights ‘limited’ in safeguarding access nationwide

President Joe Biden has been under intense pressure by the radical left base that largely steers his administration to take action in the aftermath of the Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade, and the president is expected to sign yet another executive order to purportedly protect access to abortions.

Or, as the White House terms it, access to “reproductive health care services.”

Despite a lot of words from the White House and plenty of media ballyhoo, the executive order does not do much to change the current landscape when it comes to killing unborn babies.

In summarizing the coming order, Politico reported it will “expand access to abortion pills, beef up enforcement of Obamacare’s birth control coverage mandate [and] organize pro bono lawyers to help defend people criminally charged for seeking or providing abortions.”

CBS News reported that the actions outlined in the order “are intended to try to mitigate some potential penalties women seeking abortion may face after the ruling but are limited in their ability to safeguard access to abortion nationwide.”

“The president is expected to formalize instructions to the Departments of Justice and Health and Human Services to push back on efforts to limit the ability of women to access federally approved abortion medication or to travel across state lines to access clinical abortion services,” the network reported. “His executive order will also direct agencies to work to educate medical providers and insurers about how and when they are required to share privileged patient information with authorities — an effort to protect women who seek or utilize abortion services.”

The Federal Trade Commission will also be asked “to take steps to protect the privacy of those seeking information about reproductive care online and establish an interagency task force to coordinate federal efforts to safeguard access to abortion.”

The White House pushed a fact sheet featuring four bullet points: “Safeguarding access to reproductive health care services, including abortion and contraception; Protecting the privacy of patients and their access to accurate information; Promoting the safety and security of patients, providers, and clinics; and Coordinating the implementation of Federal efforts to protect reproductive rights and access to health care.”

The release opened with a healthy dose of propaganda presented as fact:

“Two weeks ago, the Supreme Court issued a decision that overturned Roe v. Wade and eliminated a woman’s Constitutional right to choose. This decision expressly took away a right from the American people that it had recognized for nearly 50 years – a woman’s right to make her own reproductive health care decisions, free from government interference,” the fact sheet declared. “Fundamental rights – to privacy, autonomy, freedom, and equality – have been denied to millions of women across the country, with grave implications for their health, lives, and wellbeing. This ruling will disproportionately affect women of color, low-income women, and rural women.”

“President Biden has made clear that the only way to secure a woman’s right to choose is for Congress to restore the protections of Roe as federal law,” the statement continued. “Until then, he has committed to doing everything in his power to defend reproductive rights and protect access to safe and legal abortion.”

Life News chimed in to suggest that President Biden is “more faithful to Planned Parenthood than the Catholic Church.”
