Expelled student who mocked Kirk’s assassination plays victim in crowdfunding appeal

A Texas State University student who was expelled for mocking Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk’s murder and assassination now suggests he was the real victim in all this and therefore needs help.

Former Texas State student Devion Canty Jr. has organized a GoFundMe to raise money to “cover the costs of pursuing” his education elsewhere “or taking the necessary steps to return to Texas State.”

In the GoFundMe fundraiser, Canty starts out by claiming he wasn’t expelled but rather willingly withdrew from the school “for my own safety and the well-being of the campus community.”

He continues by attempting to dispute the narrative that he’s an “out-of-control, disrespectful young Black man.”

“In reality, I am a passionate student who made a mistake in the heat of the moment after being repeatedly disrespected—spit on, called racial slurs, and witnessing women being cursed at and pushed around,” he explains. “I spoke up, and while I recognize my actions weren’t perfect, I did not harm anyone.”

FYI, zero evidence has emerged to back up his claim that he was harassed and insulted at the vigil:

He concludes his fundraiser by asking members of the public to help him with his education goals.

“This fundraiser will help me cover the costs of pursuing my education elsewhere or taking the necessary steps to return to Texas State,” he writes. “I still believe in my education and my future, and I would love to be welcomed back on campus one day.”

“Thank you for reading and supporting me through this difficult time. Your contributions will go directly toward ensuring I can continue my education and grow from this experience,” he continues.

As previously reported, Canty went viral after he was captured on video at the vigil shouting at mourners, imitating the way Kirk’s body had reacted to being hit by a bullet, and spitting at mourners.

Basically, he acted exactly how he would later accuse others of acting.

Indeed, according to a witness statement issued to the X user “Johnny MAGA,” it was Kirk’s mourners who “had signs stolen” and who “were called many obscenities by this man [Canty] and the mob.”

The video of Canty’s bad behavior caught the attention of Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, who tweeted that his “conduct is not accepted at our schools” and demanded he be expelled “immediately.”

School officials quickly complied.

“The university has identified the student in the disturbing video from Monday’s event,” Texas State University president Kelly Damphouse said in a statement. “I will not tolerate behavior that mocks, trivializes, or promotes violence on our campuses. It is antithetical to our TXST values.”

As of Saturday morning, Canty was up to a little over $2,000 out of his $9,000 goal.
