Fearmongering on steroids! AOC panics at coming American apartheid, fascism, intimidation at polls

Appearing on MSNBC late Friday, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a fringe leftist, trotted out conspiracies and lies galore.

Much of what she said was seen as pure nonsense, as usual.

She started with a conspiracy theory about how America is facing “an environment of fascism” because of alleged “intimidation at the polls.”

“There is absolutely no doubt that the data shows that the vast majority of incidents of domestic terror come from white nationalism and that we are really, truly facing the environment of fascism. And in the United States of America, this type of intimidation at the polls brings us to Jim Crow,” she said.

“It brings us back, and harkens back to a very unique form of American apartheid that is not that long-passed ago. And we have never fully healed from it. And those wounds threaten to rip right back open if we do not strongly defend democracy in the United States of America,” the congresswoman added.

By “this type of intimidation,” she meant the alleged intimidation that’s been occurring in Arizona but that no judge has thus far sought to thwart.

In recent weeks, Arizona Secretary of State Katie Hobbs, who’s running for a position as governor in the 2022 races, has received 10 complaints relating to alleged intimidation at ballot drop box sites, according to ABC News.

“Most described an instance of groups of individuals loitering near the drop boxes, filming and photographing voters as they returned their ballots and in some cases, taking photographs of the voters’ license plates,” the outlet reported Friday.

One report described individuals dressed in ‘camo-clad gear’ and photos from election officials show at least two armed individuals outside the Mesa drop box Friday,” ABC News added.

But the evidence suggests they were just poll watchers trying to make sure everything was on the up and up.

The evidence includes the fact that earlier Friday, a federal judge “declined to issue a temporary restraining order and preliminary injunction to block individuals accused of voter intimidation from gathering near ballot boxes and surveilling voters.”

“Plaintiffs have not provided the Court with any evidence that Defendants’ conduct constitutes a true threat. On this record, Defendants have not made any statements threatening to commit acts of unlawful violence to a particular individual or group of individuals,” U.S. District Court Judge Michael Liburdi ruled.

But Ocasio-Cortez conveniently neglected to mention this ruling in her MSNBC rant.

Later during her appearance on MSNBC, the congresswoman also tossed out some BS complaints about inflation.

“When we talk about issues like inflation, a lot of this has to do with the massive consolidation of our markets and corporate greed. Our inflation is not going up due to government policies. Inflation is going up due to Wall Street decisions and the idea that they can just squeeze us for every penny that we’re worth,” she claimed.

Fact-check: FALSE.

Inflation is up because of government policies — specifically, because of the government policy of handing out boatloads of money during the COVID pandemic.

“Starting in March 2020, in response to the disruptions of Covid-19, the U.S. government created about $3 trillion of new bank reserves, equivalent to cash, and sent checks to people and businesses,” Hoover Institution economist John Cochrane argued in a paper published last spring.

“The Treasury then borrowed another $2 trillion or so and sent more checks. Overall federal debt rose nearly 30 percent. Is it at all a surprise that a year later inflation breaks out? It is hard to ask for a clearer demonstration of fiscal inflation, an immense fiscal helicopter drop,” he added.

It may be a surprise to some, but it shouldn’t be.

That being said, the primary driver of the current inflation crisis has been the $2 trillion or so that President Joe Biden spent during the latter portion of the pandemic.

Indeed, in an analysis published in May, Morgan Stanley blamed current inflation primarily on the “excessive” spending of 2021.

“In summary, the slack created by the covid recession is being absorbed much faster than usual. While some of this absorption is due to the supply disruptions created by the lockdowns, we think it was more so due to excessive fiscal stimulus provided during the pandemic, particularly the last $1.9T package at the end of March 2021 just as the economy was already emerging from the lockdowns. In our view, this was what turbocharged consumption and drove inflation to 40-year highs,” the analysis read.

Hayes, a fringe far-leftist himself, predictably didn’t call out any of Ocasio-Cortez’s conspiracy theories and lies. Nor has anybody else in the establishment press.
