Fetterman says ‘moral clarity’ drives his break with the Democratic Party

Sen. John Fetterman, D-Pa., insists the “fracturing” between himself and the Democratic Party is due to “moral clarity” and not politics.

Speaking on Fox News’s “Life, Liberty & Levin,” the Pennsylvania Democrat explained how the widening split for him from his party has been “primarily” about Israel and was unapologetic about his principles.

“I don’t know if I am a moderate, but I really follow what I think is true,” Fetterman told host Mark Levin. “I never really cared, whatever side that is, I will follow moral clarity.”

“There’s been a fracturing between me and my party… primarily it’s been Israel,” said Fetterman, who pointed out he is a Democrat who supports Operation Epic Fury.

“That might isolate me politically, but I’ve had no regrets because I’ve always felt that’s the moral clarity, and I never checked, you know, whatever politics are behind it,” he said.

Speaking of the ongoing partial government shutdown, Fetterman reiterated his criticism of Democrats who are blocking funding for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the harm it is causing federal employees.

“That used to be the Democratic Party position, ‘We’d never, ever shut our government down. That’s the wrong thing. You’re going to hurt workers, you’re going to hurt America,'” the senator said. “And sadly, we decided it’s the right thing and we need to do it.”

“What was deeply offensive to me was [Democrats] knew it would have no direct or indirect impact on ICE,” he said.

“To shut the entire DHS down and punish all of those people,” he continued, pointing to the “difficult job” that Transportation Security Administration employees do every day.

“That should be the kind of people we’re fighting for,” Fetterman said. “And we betrayed them for the wrong reasons.”

“We have a responsibility as senators to keep our government open, and we find a way forward without punishing all these innocent workers and making our nation less safe,” he added.

Fetterman blasted his party’s “crazy” support for leftists, especially when it comes to Israel, as he referenced Democrats recently campaigning with far-left internet streamer Hasan Piker, who once defended Hamas as being “a thousand times better” than Israel.

“Democrats have to decide, whose side are you in? Are you proud to stand with that kind of an individual or stand with Israel?” Fetterman asked. “I may have lost the socialist vote and the pro-Iran vote in my party, but that’s part of my party that’s growing, unfortunately.”
