Feud between Trump and House GOP lawmaker goes nuclear, Trump wants him out

Iran wasn’t alone in facing strikes from the president over the weekend as the commander-in-chief also unloaded on a “pathetic LOSER” in Congress set to face a massive primary challenge.

It remains uncertain what, if any, escalation will come of the United States bombing the Islamist regime’s nuclear facilities to impede proliferation. At the same time, a Truth Social post from President Donald Trump on Sunday made clear that a concerted effort from MAGA would be underway to blow Kentucky Rep. Thomas Massie (R) out of office by May 2026.

“Congressman Thomas Massie of Kentucky is not MAGA, even though he likes to say he is. Actually, MAGA doesn’t want him, doesn’t know him, and doesn’t respect him. He is a negative force who almost always Votes ‘NO,’ no matter how good something may be,” began a lengthy post targeting the lawmaker opposed to the “One Big Beautiful Bill” and intervention in foreign conflicts.

“MAGA should drop this pathetic LOSER, Tom Massie, like the plague!” added Trump.

“He’s a simple minded ‘grandstander’ who thinks it’s good politics for Iran to have the highest level Nuclear weapon, while at the same time yelling ‘DEATH TO AMERICA’ at every chance they get. Iran has killed and maimed thousands of Americans, and even took over the American Embassy in Tehran under the Carter Administration,” the president stated, reminding of the history in support of acting to impede a nuclear-capable Iran. “We had a spectacular military success yesterday, taking the ‘bomb’ right out of their hands (and they would use it if they could!) but, as usual, and despite all of the praise and accolades received, this ‘lightweight’ Congressman is against what was so brilliantly achieved last night in Iran. Massie is weak, ineffective, and votes ‘NO’ on virtually everything put before him (Rand Paul, Jr.), no matter how good something may be.”

“The good news,” suggested Trump, “is that we will have a wonderful American Patriot running against him in the Republican Primary, and I’ll be out in Kentucky campaigning really hard. MAGA is not about lazy, grandstanding, nonproductive politicians, of which Thomas Massie is definitely one.”

According to a report from Axios, the president’s team launched Kentucky MAGA, a political action committee aimed at unseating the incumbent Massie in a May 2026 primary. Set to be run by advisers Tony Fabrizio and Chris LaCivita, the latter said the PAC would spend “whatever it takes” against the congressman.

Citing a poll conducted by John McLaughlin that showed an 87% approval rating for Trump compared to 52% for Massie and that 52% would support a Trump-endorsed candidate compared to only 23% for the incumbent, Axios also indicated 74% backed the president’s legislative agenda through the “One Big Beautiful Bill.”

Responding to the polling after facing primary challenges each of the past three elections, Massie told Axios, “Any serious person considering running should spend money on an independent poll before letting swampy consultants take them for an embarrassing ride.”

Meanwhile, having introduced a War Powers Resolution to stave off a strike against Iran without congressional authority alongside California Rep. Ro Khanna (D), the two lawmakers appeared on CBS News’ “Face the Nation” Sunday, where Massie said, “I represent part of the coalition that elected President Trump. We were tired of endless wars in the Middle East, and tired of wars in Eastern Europe.”

“They should have called us all back. And frankly, we should have debated this War Powers Resolution that Ro Khanna and I offered, instead of staying on vacation and doing fundraisers, and saying, ‘Oh, well, the president’s got this under control, we’re going to cede our constitutional authority,'” he asserted.

Having opposed the president’s COVID spending in the first Trump administration, Massie harkened back to the March 2020 response to the virus and suggested on CNN that “‘Three bombings to neutralize Iran’ may turn out to be the 2025 version of ‘two weeks to slow the spread.'”

He also quipped in response to Trump’s Truth Social post, “@realDonaldTrump declared so much War on me today it should require an Act of Congress. #sassywithmassie.”
