Fired assistant files lawsuit against Howard Sterns, claims bizarre rules for personal staff

A wrongful termination lawsuit against Howard Stern and his wife revealed the sometimes strange rules they had for their former assistant.

Leslie Kuhn managed the Sterns’ Hamptons home and hit the couple with a suit accusing them of creating a hostile work environment. Page Six obtained documents that indicate Kuhn “was asked to sign a non-disclosure agreement forbidding her to discuss business affairs, as well as Howard and Beth’s personal affairs.”

This isn’t exactly the strangest situation in the world, after all, what rich and famous couple wants their in-home staff telling all their secrets to the world? But some of the items covered by the NDA are headscratchers.

From Page Six:

The agreement would ban Kuhn from disclosing the Stern family’s “daily activities and personal habits,” even down to their “food preferences, sleeping habits, [and] hobbies.”

She would also be barred from discussing their use of consumer products, choice of restaurants, hotels or other establishments, entertainment preferences, political affiliations and “any other matters affecting or relating to the Company and its business, and the personal and business affairs of the Company,” according to the complaint.

Other off-limits subjects allegedly included the “location or contents of residences and other properties,” as well as their “travel arrangements.”

Kuhn explains in her lawsuit that she was tasked with managing the staff and daily operations at the Stern home, and also Beth Stern’s “extensive at-home feline rescue and fostering operations.” She alleges that she “received a letter in December 2025 from Howard’s production company, stating that she would be receiving a raise to increase her salary to $265,000, along with an $80,000 bonus in 2026.”

The problem with that, she says, is that she was fired in February.

“Kuhn believes her termination was the result of a hostile work environment as well as ‘immense pressures on the household created by irresponsible and untenable animal rescue and fostering operations occurring on-site, and massively disorganized and questionable business operations and accounting practices,’ according to court docs,” Page Six reported.

She further denies ever signing any NDA presented by Howard Stern’s production company and is asking the court to render the NDA unenforceable “as it silences her from speaking about her employment and termination.”

“Such a contractual relationship would place Kuhn — a mere at-will employee with considerably less influence and resources than the Sterns, their affiliated entities and associates — at a distinct and unfair advantage personally, professionally and publicly,” the lawsuit argues.
