First transgender state legislator sentenced after disturbing child exploitation conviction

A defense of suggested “retardation” wasn’t sufficient to keep a state’s first “openly transgender” legislator from earning decades behind bars for sexually exploiting children.

“‘I’m not a deviant! I’m retarded!’ is a hell of a legal strategy.”

Whether it’s a Senate candidate with a Nazi tattoo, a big city mayor tied to terrorists or any of the countless other politicians with skeletons in and out of their respective closets, the “vote blue no matter who” crowd has certainly lived up to their slogan.

Counted among that litany of leftists is former New Hampshire state Rep. Stacie Laughton (D) turned ordained minister, who, born Barry Charles Laughton Jr., was recently sentenced to 33 years in prison following his guilty plea regarding explicit images of kids at a daycare center.

Sharing an image of Laughton in an alphabet activist-themed face mask, Libs of TikTok posted Friday, “New Hampshire’s first transgender elected Rep., Stacie Laughton (D), sentenced to 33 years in prison for the s*xual exploitation of children.”

Delving into details of the defense, Reduxx shared an excerpt from a memorandum with analysis from clinical forensic psychologist Dr. Joseph Plaud that read, “Dr. Plaud also confirmed Ms. Laughton’s developmental delays. Medical records indicate that Ms. Laughton suffers from ‘minimal cerebral dysfunction related to anoxic birth injury.’ Ms. Laughton’s medical records also corroborated her longstanding intellectual issues, ‘it would not be surprising given that [Stacie] is functioning in the borderline level of intellectual disability with an IQ in the mid-70’s and given the fact that he has been so frequently in and out of psychiatric hospitals, that his IQ would eventually drift downward into the range which might suggest retardation.'”

Late last year, it was reported that Laughton pled guilty to charges of sexual exploitation of children after he encouraged his former romantic partner, Lindsay Groves, to take nude pictures of children at the Tyngsborough, Massachusetts, day care center Creative Minds.

According to the Department of Justice, included among more than 10,000 text messages exchanged between Laughton and Groves, there was “discussion about, and transfer of, explicit photographs that Groves had taken of children while employed at Creative minds–including at least four sexually explicit images of children who appear to be approximately three to five years old.”

The messages associated with those images included talk of sexually abusing the children.

Before his 2023 arrest for sexual exploitation of children, Laughton was previously convicted of felony credit card and identity fraud, arrested for calling in a bomb threat to Southern New Hampshire Medical Center, and charged with seven counts of providing false information to 911 after summoning police to his home.

He went on to be arrested days after his successful 2022 re-election for allegedly violating a restraining order. Meanwhile, Groves was sentenced to 22 years after she pleaded guilty to three counts of sexual exploitation of children and one count of distribution of child pornography.

Along with disgust over the crimes of Laughton and Groves, reactions following the sentence were unsurprised by details about the kind of person that Democrats would see fit to place in public office, sharing comments like, “Liberals electing a transgender pedophile retard to office should surprise absolutely no one,” while also reminding that former California Rep. Eric Swalwell (D) had once campaigned for the felon.
