Fox News is reporting that the crash is being investigated and more details are yet to come. Stagecoach is about 40 miles east of Reno. The area was slammed with snow on Friday during a winter storm.
Lyon County Sheriff’s Office deputies reported that the aircraft was operated by CareFlight, a service of the Regional Emergency Medical Services Authority Health, headquartered in Reno.
“On February 24, 2023, at approximately 09:15 pm, the Lyon County Dispatch Center received multiple calls of a possible aircraft crash in Stagecoach, Nevada,” Sheriff Brad Pope said in a statement.
The plane was later identified as a Pilatus PC 12 fixed-wing aircraft. There were no survivors, according to KOLO 8.

Lyon County deputies, Central Lyon County fire officials, Lyon County Search and Rescue, and Douglas County Search and Rescue all responded to the scene of the accident to search the area following the crash.
“Care Flight, a service of REMSA Health, headquartered in Reno, Nevada and Guardian Flight, headquartered in Utah, can confirm that a PC 12 fixed wing aircraft, tail number N273SM, went off radar Friday, Feb. 24, at approximately 9:45 p.m., near Stagecoach, Nevada. We are heartbroken to report that we have now received confirmation from Central Lyon County Fire Department that none of the five people on board survived. The five people on board were a pilot, a flight nurse, a flight paramedic, a patient and a patient’s family member. We are in the process of notifying their family members,” REMSA Health said in a statement.
“Our immediate focus is helping our team members and families, as well as the responding agencies. The Central Lyon Fire Department and Lyon County Sheriff’s Department are coordinating with the National Transportation Safety Board to determine the cause of the crash which is under investigation. As is Guardian and Care Flight’s safety process in these situations, we are in a passive stand down for all Guardian and Care Flight flights across the company. We will work with each of our operations to ascertain when they are able to return to service,” the company stated.
REMSA Health’s new fixed-wing program, which includes five bases and a fleet of four helicopters, one airplane, and one Critical Care Ground Transport, covers approximately 50,000 square miles of California and Nevada. Some of that territory is extremely unforgiving in the high Sierras. The program services 11 states across the western United States, according to its website.
The cause of the crash is unknown and remains under investigation at this time according to authorities.
