Fla. Dem Nikki Fried’s reminder that DeSantis founded the Freedom Caucus backfires

The latest tweet from Nikki Fried, the former Florida agriculture commissioner, helps explain why she got smoked in the Democratic gubernatorial primary by Charlie Crist, a chameleon politician who started his political career as a Republican.

Fried shared what proved to be a complimentary tweet about Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, the Republican incumbent who campaigned on the simple concept of “freedom” in defeating Crist by an astounding 20 points — imagine how badly Fried would have gone down.

The now-unemployed Democrat wanted to inform everyone that DeSantis was one of the founding members of the Freedom Caucus after members of this caucus held up the election of speaker out of concerns about U.S. Rep. Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif. “Ron Desantis was one of the nine founders of the Congressional Freedom Caucus,” Fried tweeted.

The tweet comes as some fervid Trump supporters, who fear the Florida governor’s potential, try to smear DeSantis as a “RINO,” a tool of the establishment — the Freedom Caucus serves as a fly in the ointment when it comes to the permanent political class.

As seen on social media, Fried’s tweet was not the ‘own’ she might have thought it was… here’s a quick sampling of responses to the story from Twitter:
