Fla. University radical program uncovered: white students should ‘feel bad for being white’ as part of their ‘identity development’

Manhattan Institute Senior Fellow Chris Rufo is exposing the University of South Florida for allegedly implementing a diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) counseling program that segregates students by race while pushing the concepts of “white guilt” and “white fragility.”

Rufo has obtained copies of documents that have now been removed from the university’s online servers showing that the school was and potentially still is engaged in a radical DEI program, according to his post on City Journal.

“I have obtained a trove of public documents exposing USF’s radical DEI programming, much of which, according to the Wayback Machine, the university tried to delete from its website following Florida governor Ron DeSantis’s recent request for information about university DEI,” he tweeted.

The program includes “anti-racist resources” that promote a left-wing political agenda and negative attitudes toward white students.

Rufo tweeted evidence of the claim the program includes issues such as defunding the police, prison abolition, and rejecting “white, capitalist Jesus.”

The purported documents reveal how the program utilizes anti-racist resources, segregated counseling sessions, and materials for white students to confront their “white privilege,” “white guilt,” and “white fragility.”

Rufo contends that the program is nothing more than sheer leftist political activism. He posits that it is “the condemnation of American society.” He also notes that in the wake of George Floyd’s death, the university condemned the US for its supposed “systemic racism,” “white supremacy,” and “interlocking systems of oppression.”

“According to these materials, whites must first enter the process of ‘disintegration,’ experiencing ‘white guilt’ and thinking, ‘I feel bad for being white.’ Next, after their identity is broken down, they enter a phase of ‘reintegration,’ thinking, ‘it’s not my fault I’m white,'” he wrote on Twitter, referring to the university’s reeducation program.

“Finally, as whites move through the stages of ‘pseudo-independence’ and ‘immersion,’ they will begin to ‘work against systems of oppression’ and ‘use [their] privilege to support anti-racist work.’ At the end, their psychology should conform entirely to political ideology,” Rufo asserted, alluding to a form of brainwashing allegedly being committed by leftists at the university.

“USF promotes a range of racially segregated scholarship programs that explicitly exclude white students. These programs are a direct violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act,” Rufo charged.

Rufo’s investigation of the University of Florida follows Governor Ron DeSantis proposing legislation to eliminate all DEI and Critical Race Theory programs in the state’s colleges.

He announced the higher education proposal at a press conference in Bradenton and said the reforms “must be grounded in actual history, the actual philosophy that has shaped western civilization.”

“I think people want to see true academics and they want to get rid of some of the political window dressing that seems to accompany all this,” DeSantis proclaimed at a news conference in January, adding that Critical Race Theory and diversity, equity, and inclusion programs would get “no funding, and that will wither on the vine.”
