Fmr. Cuomo aide killed when Lyft driver kicks him out of car in the middle of a busy highway

A former senior policy advisor for ex-New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo was killed on Sunday when an angry Lyft driver ordered him and his party out of his vehicle — while sitting in the middle of a traffic lane.

Sidney Wolf, 43, died Sunday after being struck by a vehicle on a busy Dewey Beach, Del., highway following a dispute of some sort with the driver. who ordered them out of the vehicle.

“A disagreement occurred between the group and the Lyft operator. The Lyft operator terminated the ride and stopped in the middle of the southbound left lane and demanded all six passengers exit the vehicle,” the Delaware State Police said in a statement. “At this time, a 2016 Toyota Corolla, operated by a 27-year-old male was traveling southbound on Coastal Highway in the left lane approaching the stopped Lyft vehicle (possibly a white Honda Pilot). As the operator changed lanes to avoid striking the rear of the Lyft vehicle, he failed to see the pedestrian who had just exited the right rear passenger seat and was standing in the roadway. As a result, the left front of Corolla struck the pedestrian.”

The married father of two young daughters, Wolf lived in Gaithersburg, Maryland and coached youth hockey.

“This is an extremely difficult time for our family,” Wolf’s family said in a statement. “The level of shock and pain we feel right now cannot be measured as we continue to grieve. We truly appreciate the outpouring of love and support we’ve received and kindly request that the family’s privacy is respected as we move through this process.”

A Lyft spokesperson also released a statement expressing condolences to Wolf’s family.

“We are heartbroken by this incident,” the spokesperson said. “Our hearts are with Mr. Wolf’s loved ones during this incredibly difficult time, and we’ve reached out to the ride requester to offer our support. We have permanently removed the driver from the Lyft community and are in contact with law enforcement to assist with their investigation.”
