Foreshadowing? DeSantis shatters New Hampshire GOP fundraising record

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’ (R) “Blueprint For America’s Revival” included a record-breaking haul for the New Hampshire GOP after one of his latest trips, foretelling a potential presidential campaign that “exceeded planned capacity.”

Whether a 2024 bid from DeSantis is a foregone conclusion or wishful thinking, conservatives across the country have been increasingly drawn to the Sunshine State leader’s successes in combating the leftist agenda. In addition to touring to promote his book, “The Courage to Be Free: Florida’s Blueprint For America’s Revival,” the governor’s growing popularity left him scheduled to speak in Ohio, Virginia and at New Hampshire’s largest annual fundraising event, the Amos Tuck Dinner.

“Record-breaking fundraiser for the state party,” New Hampshire GOP Chairman Chris Ager told the NHJournal Friday before it was revealed the event pulled in $382,000. “Largest fundraiser in the history of the NHGOP, raising more than a quarter of a million dollars. Ticket sales were halted earlier this week after we exceeded planned capacity.”

“There’s high anticipation from our activist base to hear directly from the governor,” Ager said to the Washington Examiner. “And we were very pleased that he accepted our invitation.”

With tables added to accommodate the demand, Washington Post reporter Maeve Reston detailed, “Sold-out appearance by @GovRonDeSantis at the @NHGOP dinner tonight will bring in more than a quarter-million dollars, smashing the previous record for party’s spring fundraising dinner. Sold 500 tix at $150 with no freebies for activists & 100 VIP tix at $500 (for photo line).”

The event, DeSantis’ first trip to New Hampshire during the 2024 presidential cycle, was one of several stops as he crisscrossed the nation. Previously, he had visited Iowa and Nevada and, following his address to a convocation at Liberty University, the governor is expected to appear in another early primary state next week, having been invited to speak in South Carolina.

A report from Puck News’ Tara Palmeri had stated in advance of the event that “The New Hampshire GOP is still struggling to sell tickets, at every level up from entry-level tickets to $5,000 dinner sponsorships…With only one week to go, organizers are apparently underwhelmed by the interest in an event they’d hoped would sell out.”

However, that may have had more to do with behind-the-scenes heavy hitters endeavoring to damage the optics of America’s Governor ahead of his potential bid to run against former President Donald Trump for the Republican nomination.

In fact, NHJournal reported that New Hampshire Fox News viewers “were greeted Friday morning with a new TV ad mocking DeSantis over reports he allegedly ate a pudding pack using his fingers. The ad hits DeSantis for votes to reform entitlement programs like Social Security and Medicare.”

“And somebody get this guy a spoon!” the ad stated.

The outlet suggested that allies of Trump’s campaign were behind the negative messaging that was unsuccessful in deterring fundraising for New Hampshire Republicans. In addition to the ticket sales generating revenue for the Granite State GOP, the $382,000 included $132,000 contributed directly from DeSantis’ supporters after the governor requested they pitch in to help the effort.
