Former NYC Mayor Rudy Giuliani, who was recently injured in a car accident, will be receiving the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
The award is the highest civilian honor one can receive, and President Donald Trump announced the decision on Truth Social as Giuliani recovers from his injuries in a New Hampshire hospital.

“As President of the United States of America, I am pleased to announce that Rudy Giuliani, the greatest Mayor in the history of New York City, and an equally great American Patriot, will receive THE PRESIDENTIAL MEDAL OF FREEDOM, our Country’s highest civilian honor. Details as to time and place to follow. Thank you for your attention to this matter. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!!!” Trump posted on Monday afternoon.
On August 30, just two days before the announcement, Giuliani was involved in a car crash that left him with a fractured vertebrae, injuries to his left arm and leg, and a multitude of lacerations. According to a spokesperson, the former mayor had stopped to do a good deed prior to the accident.
“Mayor Giuliani was flagged down by a woman who was a victim of domestic violence prior to the accident. He rendered assistance and contacted 911, remaining on scene until responding officers arrived to ensure her safety,” they said.
But when he got back into his vehicle, Giuliani was reportedly struck from behind by another driver who was traveling at a high rate of speed. He was taken to a Manhattan trauma center and will reportedly wear a brace as he recovers.
“The mayor is in great spirits. He’s a beast. He survived 9/11,” the spokesperson said.
“He’s getting further tests and stabilization of his injuries,” revealed Giuliani’s business partner and nurse, Maria Ryan.
