Gavin Newsom ‘enthusiastic’ about Trump accounts: ‘It’s one of the best things he’s done’

It is truly a rare day when President Donald J. Trump gets praised by a Democrat, and even more so when it comes from California Gov. Gavin Newsom.

The outgoing Golden State governor and 2028 White House hopeful said that he is “enthusiastic” about Trump accounts, the Republican leader’s initiative that created investment accounts for children under 18, with the federal government depositing $1,000 into accounts for babies born during the president’s second term.

In remarks during a Friday news conference in San Francisco, the oily politician broke character with his props for the POTUS and encouraging California parents to sign their kids up for the accounts named after Trump, whom he has likened to Hitler.

“I’m enthusiastic about encouraging people to get a Trump account,” Newsom said. “I think it’s incredibly important.”

““It’s one of the best things he’s done,” he added. “It’s one of the best things Ted Cruz has done…,” doling out more bipartisan praise to the GOP senator from Texas.

“It’s direct. It’s tangible. It’s results oriented,” Newsom continued. “It’s not lost in bureaucracy. You can see it, taste it, feel it. You’re making a difference directly to the next generation. You’re giving them hope.”

The praise was truly out of character for the governor who has spent years seeking to appeal to the rabid Democrat base with his antagonism toward Trump.

“Did something happen to Newsom?” Asked one pro-Trump X account.

Last month, the Treasury said that the Trump accounts could potentially make some kids into millionaires.

“And so we’re here to encourage people to take advantage of this, to not fall prey to the politics or the cynicism or maybe even the fear that if I download a Trump account, somehow that means something. It doesn’t,” Newsom said.

“It just means something for your kid. It’s not Trump’s money. It’s your child’s money. And so we want to encourage everybody out there to take advantage of this program,” the governor added.
