Embattled California Gov. Gavin Newsom and his wife, Jennifer Siebel Newsom, are reportedly currently worth $30 million, making the governor’s $245,929 annual salary look like chump change.
The beginnings of this wealth preceded Newsom’s rise into politics, according to an investigation by the New York Post.
“Newsom was a wealthy man by the time he made his first major foray into politics as mayor of San Francisco in 2004,” the Post notes, adding that by then Newsom was already worth almost $7 million thanks to his family’s ties to multimillionaire businessman Gordon Getty.
“Newsom’s father, attorney and appeals court judge, William, was so trusted by Gordon Getty, he delivered the $2.2 million ransom to secure the release of his nephew, John Paul Getty III, who had been kidnapped by the Italian mafia on July 10, 1973,” according to the Post.

Meanwhile, Getty’s son, Bill, joined forces with Newsom, his then-friend, in 1992 to launch Plumpjack, a hospitality and lifestyle group that later purchased the Balboa Cafe in San Francisco in 1995.
“Plumpjack has gone on to expand into wineries, restaurants, and hotels,” the Post notes.
Plumpjack has also been accused of taking advantage of the COVID-era Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loans.

All forgiven, essentially a $3M gift to Newsom.

Newsom himself has been accused of spending campaign donor money to prop up the business.
“Newsom raised $120 million last year to help pass the Election Rigging Response Act, intended to help Democrats win the House of Representatives this year by rejiggering California congressional maps to wipe out as many as five Republican-held seats,” according to the Post.
“A whopping $26,882.89 of that donor cash was spent at Plumpjack Wines — Newsom’s ritzy San Francisco-based wine shop — for a fundraising event, according to campaign filings unearthed by the Post,” the reporting continues.
Using all his wealth, Newsom and his wife purchased a 12,600 square-foot mansion for $3.7 million in 2018 — right before he became California’s governor.
Then in 2024, they purchased another mansion — this one for $9.1 million.

The governor has already written several books, one of which was purchased in bulk by his own political action committee.
Reporting about his wealth comes as the Department of Justice has confirmed that they are indeed investigating California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s wife, Jennifer Newsom, and her taxes.
However, in a statement to CNN, “a person familiar with the probe” denied that the investigation was launched by the Trump administration.
Reporting by The Daily Wire has revealed that the investigation was instead launched by the Biden administration:
NEW: @realDailyWire has learned that there are multiple DOJ investigations going on related to Gavin Newsom, though none of them are directly into Newsom himself. One investigation, which began in 2025, is related to his wife and her taxes, a source familiar shared. A separate…

“Siebel Newsom is involved with the feminist nonprofit Representation Project, where she earns more than a $150,000 salary as a founder,” according to the Post. “That nonprofit also gave around $150,000 annually to Siebel Newsom’s media production company, Girls Club Entertainment, which she has used to create documentaries.”
