The big day has arrived and now it’s just a matter of time before America finds out if Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg follows through on his partisan pursuit of indicting former President Donald Trump on a trumped up charge of paying hush money to porn star Stormy Daniels.
Much of corporate media, if not most, have been salivating for six years over such a moment and talk of Trump’s possible arrest dominated the airwaves on Monday. Over at MSNBC, the network that has made a name for it’s racially divisive fare, fantasies of Trump surrendering danced around in the head of host Chris Hayes but guest George Conway had other thoughts, suggesting Trump wants the proverbial perp walk.
“Are you confident – having a sense of the man’s psychology as you do – that he will actually do this by the book and self-surrender and just get it over with?” Hayes asked — never mind that the only sense Conway has is that his soon-to-be ex-wife once worked for Trump.
Looking thinner and much older since news of the end of his marriage to Kellyanne Conway was first reported, Conway made the factually incorrect claim that Trump “refused to leave the White House” after the 2020 election while answering the question — this passing as enlightened thought on the network.
“I’m not confident of that at all,” Conway replied. “I think anything is possible with this guy. I think he could decide to drag it out, to create more controversy. I mean, this is the man who refused to leave the White House two years ago. So, I think we won’t be able to know what he’s going to do until he actually does it.”
With a chyron declaring “Indictment Watch,” Hayes talked giddily about a possible “standoff at Mar-a-Lago” before suggesting that when given the choice between complying and pushing the envelope, Trump always seems to choose the latter.
“And that’s quite possible,” Conway responded. “Then he gets the perp walk that he – I should think he doesn’t want – but maybe he does want it. Maybe he does want a perp walk in order to inflame his supporters. You just cannot predict the psychology on this. He will go back and forth and we will see what he does and when he does it.”
