Geraldo quits 23-yr. run at Fox News after getting fired from The Five, Twitter has parting words

In a very Geraldo Rivera manner, the longtime Fox News contributor announced his departure from the network in a video he shared online.

The video was shot as he bounced around in a boat off Long Island’s Jones Beach, with the 79-year-old Rivera saying, “I’ve been fired from ‘The Five.’ And, as a result of that, I quit Fox.”

“Bumpy day on the North Atlantic. Anyway, I got fired from @TheFive so I quit Fox. After 23 years tomorrow Fox and Friends could be my last appearance on the network. Thanks for the memories,” Rivera tweeted.

When the news broke last week that Rivera was bumped from “The Five,” he told the Associated Press that he would remain with the network as a “correspondent at large,” and said he hoped “it’s not my last adventure.”

“There has been a growing tension that goes beyond editorial differences and personal annoyances and gripes,” he said of show. “It’s not worth it to me.”

A Fox News spokesperson said in a statement Thursday, “We reached an amicable conclusion with Geraldo over the past few weeks and look forward to celebrating him tomorrow on Fox & Friends which will be his last appearance on the network.”
