The Memorial Day weekend deal on the debt ceiling to avert default reached by Republican Speaker Kevin McCarthy and President Joe Biden drew high praise from many, including Geraldo Rivera who gushed about both leaders and thanked them for coming together to reach an agreement that many others are unhappy with.
Following weeks of negotiations that were seemingly stalled, the announcement came late Saturday that a tentative deal had been struck to avert default with the only obstacle remaining being that it still has to pass Congress where there are critics of the bill on both sides.
“To opponents of the not-so-grand compromise that avoids a catastrophic debt default-It is called compromise because it’s just good enough for both sides. Congratulations to negotiators and thank you for defying your crazies,” the veteran journalist tweeted on Sunday.

“The agreement represents a compromise, which means not everyone gets what they want. That’s the responsibility of governing,” Biden said in a statement. “And, this agreement is good news for the American people, because it prevents what could have been a catastrophic default and would have led to an economic recession, retirement accounts devastated, and millions of jobs lost.”
“We know at any time when you sit and negotiate within two parties that you got to work with both sides of the aisle,” McCarthy told reporters. “So it’s not 100% for what everybody wants, but when you look, the country is going to be stronger.”
“I thought his team was very professional, very smart, very tough at the same time,” the Speaker added, gushing about Biden’s negotiators.
Twitter users reacted to Rivera’s slobbering over the two leaders.

Not even close to good enough. Hopefully the freedom Caucus refuses to vote for this trash. ‘
You don’t take a knee on the 1 yard line when you need a score to win. That’s what Mccarthy did.

Nope. To say it’s not-so-grand is too kind. It’s a swampy sellout for Americans. Speaker McCarthy caved and needs to step down or be removed.

Yeah! Good to have handouts for illegals and special interest groups. While middle class still pay taxes, cost of living increases, inflation, road tolls, cross bridges, license fees, insurance fees, tax, tax, tax. And they continue to send billions to countries who hate us.

It changes nothing. Back to massive multi trillion dollar deficit spending fast tracking the nation to the brink of insolvency.

Gee, Geraldo. I thought the sky was falling. Yet again, nothing to see here. Got enough egg on your face to make a quiche.

The two sides will now work on hammering out the final deal with Congress rubber stamping it before sending it to Biden for his signature, a massive win for the deeply unpopular leader whose reelection hopes were just given a big boost from McCarthy.
