GOP heavyweight donors join forces to demand new RNC chair

Republican mega-donors are concerned that the party is “on the verge of permanent irrelevance” and are demanding Republican National Committee chair Ronna McDaniel step aside.

In a public letter, the donors expressed their desire to see civil rights attorney and national committeewoman Harmeet Dhillon take over for McDaniel, lest the party’s current “trajectory” cause irreparable harm.

“We cannot continue on our current trajectory as a Republican Party. We must change, in order to fulfill our promise to Republican voters to win elections. After three consecutive losing election cycles and decades of a handful of consultants plundering Party resources, many members of the RNC seem content to double down on the incumbent leadership that is presently failing us. The once great Party of Lincoln is on the verge of permanent irrelevance if we fail to come together to correct course,” the letter begins.

“The Republican Party currently faces the most organized, radical, and weaponized Democrat Party the nation has ever seen,” it continues. “Despite this clear and present threat to our freedom, the highest levels of the Republican National Committee appear to be more focused on blaming others for their lack of leadership and lining the pockets of cherry-picked consultants than on winning elections.”

The donors argue that given the number of problems within the party, “a growing number of Republican Party donors and activists” believe “the RNC needs fresh leadership in order to make the necessary changes to win elections.” They claim that grassroots activists, donors and long-time voters are seeing the GOP they’ve grown up with stray from its roots.

“We are calling on members of the RNC to thank Ronna McDaniel for her service and to support the only RNC member seeking to succeed her, Harmeet Dhillon—a bold visionary with the energy and experience to retool the party for success in 2024 and beyond,” the letter says, going on to tout Dhillon’s credentials not only as a constitutional attorney, but as someone who has “fought on behalf of Republican Party committees, candidates, and GOP interests, both with the party’s support and beyond it.”

“She has served as a county party committee chairman, run for public office, fought for conservative causes at the Supreme Court, and currently leads the Republican National Lawyers Association at a time when election integrity experience is at a premium as a year-round, not seasonal, mandate. Harmeet is also a successful business owner, and as a nonprofit founder and CEO, understands the ethical duties inherent in raising and spending donor funds,” the donors explained.
