President Donald Trump may be changing the name of another lake if one lawmaker has his way.
Pennsylvania state Rep. David Maloney is urging the president to change the name of Lake Erie to “Lake Pennsylvania,” as it is the state’s “only Great Lake.”
“This is Pennsylvania’s only Great Lake. Its modern economy and identity are increasingly tied to the boaters, anglers, families and tourists who come to enjoy it,” he said in a statement on the proposal. “Ohio has plenty of shoreline. New York already has two Great Lakes. Canada has four others.”
“Pennsylvania has one. Let’s call it Lake Pennsylvania!”
Maloney Says It’s Time for Lake Pennsylvania!
HARRISBURG – Rep. David Maloney (R-Berks) says Pennsylvania has only one Great Lake and maybe it is time we put our name on it.

This comes after Trump renamed the Gulf of America and more recently signed an executive order that would rename Lake Ontario to “Lake America” amid the trade war with Canada. Our neighbor to the north has rejected the attempt to rebrand the lake, claiming that they will only recognize the body of water as Lake Ontario.
“We know that America is changing. Their trading relationships, their foreign policies, their national monuments, their hydronyms. Canadians also know that naming reality means calling it Lake Ontario — then, now and always,” said Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney.
Trump also triggered Democrat anger by sharing a cheeky map that renamed New Mexico to “New America.” BizPac Review previously reported the backlash, including a strong rebuke from the state’s Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham.
“New Mexico’s name isn’t up for debate — it’s been ours since before the United States existed. You know what is up for debate? Who’s showing up for working families,” she wrote. “While the President tries to distract Americans from his disastrous war in Iran, gas prices keep soaring. Americans are also spending more at the grocery store, losing access to health care and wondering if they’ll ever be able to afford a home.”
“Under Democratic leadership here in New Mexico, we’re providing families with free childcare and college, protecting access to health care and investing in housing. While the White House wastes time coloring on maps, Nuevo México is busy doing the work,” Grisham boasted.
Democratic Congressman Gabe Vasquez was also not a fan of the idea.
“You don’t get to erase New Mexico. Not our name. Not our history. Not our culture. The President may want to call us ‘New America,’ but we know who we are. Greg Cunningham has pledged himself to Trump’s agenda but New Mexico has an opportunity to elect someone who represents us—real New Mexicans– not the sellouts like Cunningham,” he said.
