Minnesota Governor Tim Walz is facing a congressional probe over the “massive fraud” involving the more than $1 billion bilking of taxpayers by Somali scammers that has taken place during his watch.
House Oversight Committee Chairman Rep. James Comer (R-KY) told the New York Post that his panel “will conduct a thorough investigation into Governor Walz’s failure to safeguard taxpayer dollars” that were intended for hungry children in Minnesota’s Feeding Our Future fraud scandal, the largest known COVID pandemic-era ripoff.
“Minnesota Governor Tim Walz was warned about massive fraud in a pandemic food-aid program for children, yet he failed to act. Instead, whistleblowers who raised concerns faced retaliation,” the Kentucky Republican told the outlet on Monday.
“Because of Governor Walz’s negligence, criminals — including Somali terrorists — stole nearly $1 billion from the program while children suffered,” added Comer, whose committee has the power to issue subpoenas and could make referrals to the Department of Justice for criminal prosecution.
Dozens of people have already been indicted for their role in the fraudulent scheme, which now threatens to derail Walz’s efforts to seek a third term as his state’s governor.
President Donald J. Trump recently called Walz’s state “a hub of fraudulent money laundering activity” as the scandal has become so big that even the New York Times has had to report on what it described as a “fraud scandal that rattled Minnesota was staggering in its scale and brazenness” and pointed out that “Tampon Tim” was in charge when it took place.
Walz could also be in hot water with the U.S. Treasury, which will be conducting its own probe into the matter, with some of the money potentially having ended up funding a notorious Somalia-based terrorist organization.

“At my direction, @USTreasury is investigating allegations that under the feckless mismanagement of the Biden Administration and Governor Tim Walz, hardworking Minnesotans’ tax dollars may have been diverted to the terrorist organization Al-Shabaab,” Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced in a Monday post to X.
“Thanks to the leadership of @POTUS @realDonaldTrump, we are acting fast to ensure Americans’ taxes are not funding acts of global terror. We will share our findings as our investigation continues,” the Treasury boss added.
Comer’s announcement comes after an X account that claims to represent 480 state employees accused Walz of doing nothing about the fraud.

“Tim Walz is 100% responsible for massive fraud in Minnesota. We let Tim Walz know of fraud early on, hoping for a partnership in stopping fraud, but no, we got the opposite response. Tim Walz systematically retaliated against whistleblowers using monitoring, threats, repression, and did his best to discredit fraud reports,” the purported whistleblowers wrote in the lengthy post.
“Instead of partnership, we got the full weight of retaliation by Tim Walz, certain DFL members, and an indifferent mainstream media. It’s scary, isolating, and left us wondering who we can turn to,” they said.
