GOP Rep lays National Guard shooting at feet of Dems who ‘vilify’ those who ‘serve in uniform’

Republicans both in and out of Congress have begun blaming Democrats for the terror attack in D.C. that occurred on Wednesday.

As previously reported, an Afghan refugee opened fire on two members of the West Virginia National Guard who were working in D.C., ultimately killing one and critically injuring another.

Responding to the terror attack, Republican Rep. Claudia Tenney argued to Fox News on Wednesday that recent Democrat rhetoric was at least partly responsible for the attack.

“This is just, you know, what happens when you have the other side referring to these National Guardsmen … as stormtroopers and as occupation forces,” she said.

“And it’s part of the continuation of the defund and demoralize the police movement that was started back with Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and others continuing to vilify these people who serve in uniform,” she added.

Tenney went on to praise the National Guardsmen in D.C. for “doing a phenomenal job here in the District of Columbia, making it safer for everyone, residents and people who go to work here every day and families.”

“These are American heroes,” she stressed. “These are people who have answered the call to serve, especially our National Guardsmen. They’re serving every day in a regular job and then going on to do continued work and serving our nation in uniform.”

“And it’s just a tragedy that this could possibly happen in our country. And obviously, as a member of the intelligence committee, we’re gonna be looking into this further,” she concluded.

The White House has also blamed the left, but not so much the left’s rhetoric as its actions — namely, a Biden administration program that had allowed the Afghan refugee responsible for Wednesday’s shooting into the United States.

“The Trump Administration is … reviewing all asylum cases approved under the Biden Administration, which failed to vet these applicants on a massive scale,” Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin told CNN.

In a Truth Social post, President Donald Trump also suggested that this program was partly responsible for the Wednesday terror attack.

“Hundreds of thousands of people poured into our Country totally unvetted and unchecked,” he wrote. “We will fix it, but will never forget what Crooked Joe Biden and his Thugs did to our Country!”

Other figures on the right suggested that a recent video Democrats had published in which they’d urged members of the military to disobey any orders from Trump they deemed to be illegal was partly to blame for Wednesday’s tragedy.

“Just a few days ago, six Democrats claimed President Trump was issuing ‘unlawful’ orders to the military and that troops must resist,” commentator Benny Johnson tweeted. “Two National Guard Members were just targeted and shot in Washington DC.”

Fellow commentator Eric Daugherty also posited the same suggestion.

“They say Trump is using the military as his ‘personal gestapo,'” he wrote on X. “Two troops were shot today, right outside the White House. This should send shivers down the spine of every American.”

Another commentator, Greg Price, pointed to what Democrat Sen. Elissa Slotkin had just days ago said about the National Guardsmen in D.C.

FBI Director Kash Patel’s girlfriend, country singer Alexis Wilkins, meanwhile, urged Republicans to stand united against increasing Democrat extremism.

“While everyone on X is fighting, the left is still attacking people who wear the uniform and support this country simply for doing so,” she tweeted. “There are more important things in this world and far bigger enemies who actually hate us and do, in fact, want to kill us.”
