Group deep in ‘Soros’s pocket’ behind ‘gender identity’ changes to Dept of Education’s Title IX: report

As troubling as President Joe Biden’s Department of Education’s (DOE) proposed changes to Title IX are on their own, the “dark money” origin of the policy promoting the acceptance of radical ideologies may be even more “deeply disturbing” according to a new report.

Actions in the name of diversity, inclusion and equity belie their positive-sounding monikers through the espousal of the Marxist principles whence they were derived. The DOE’s attempt to include “sexual orientation” and “gender identity” has already been reported as a “total rejection of fairness and safety,” and now Fox News Digital has made the case that a George Soros-funded group could be responsible for the adoption of these “new norms.”

After reviewing documents drafted by the advocacy group Governing for Impact (GFI), Fox News reported that a memo from 2020 was “similar in structure and reasoning.”

“The Trump administration has weakened protections for transgender individuals under Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 (Title IX) by rescinding previous policy statements, changing its enforcement policy, filing Statements of Interest in litigation, and threatening fund termination for schools that support transgender students,” an excerpt from the memo addressed to the DOE read.

GFI had already been linked to over 20 progressive regulatory agenda items that the Biden administration has embraced and their executive director Rachel Klarman had no problem telling Fox News Digital how proud she was of “ongoing efforts to help ensure that the federal government works more effectively for everyday working Americans, not just for members of industry groups that have long devoted vast resources to pursuing their own policy agendas.”

“We’re glad the administration is revising its Title IX guidance,” Klarman added. “During the transition, Governing for Impact made a number of recommendations for how this policy could be improved, which are available on our public website.”

Parker Thayer, an investigative researcher for the Capital Research Center, touched on the double standard from Democrats in working with GFI. “Governing for Impact is the ultimate example of the ‘dark money’ the Left pretends to hate,” he told Fox News Digital. “It works totally in secret, it’s funded by one billionaire, it’s run by the billionaire’s cronies, and it directly influences policy from the shadows.”

GFI is financially backed by the non-profit New Venture Fund which is, in turn, managed by Arabella Advisors, a for-profit Washington, D.C.-based consulting firm that manages the donations to its five separate funds to distribute them as they see fit to various activist organizations like Demand Justice.

“The idea that a group so deeply in Soros’s pocket is calling the shots on regulations that will affect the education and safety of almost every child in the country is deeply disturbing and should be investigated at once,” Thayer noted of the connections to Soros’ Open Society Foundation.

Because GFI received a reported $12.98 million in 2019 and 2020 through the New Venture Fund, those monies do not require the filing of tax forms with the IRS.

A spokesperson for the DOE bypassed Fox News Digital’s questions about GFI’s involvement with the policy-making and insisted the “proposed rule was developed through a transparent and public process including stakeholder engagements and a public hearing and comment process, including hundreds of comments and feedback regarding protections to end discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity.”

“The Department continues to welcome feedback from all parties on the proposed regulations to ensure Title IX can fulfill its full promise and protect all students,” the spokesperson added.
