Casting President Joe Biden’s “folksy demeanor” aside, the Democratic Party’s elitism shone brightly for their vice presidential nominee with a celebrity-attended Hamptons fundraiser up to $150,000 per ticket.
The continued rollout of this year’s basement campaign model included Vice President Kamala Harris avoiding the press and unscripted moments, instead delivering repeat speeches in front of crowds enticed by big-name performers. Thursday, the reliance on celebrity donors bore out in the Hamptons as her running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz rubbed shoulders with the likes of Chris Rock and Joy Behar.
Taking place at the Southampton home of Stuart Butterfield and Jen Rubio, the CEOs of Slack and Away respectively, Page Six reported that the comedian and co-host of ABC’s “The View” were among those attending the soiree where tickets alone cost up to $150,000.
While the outlet did indicate that there were a limited number of tickets available for $6,600, the New York Post had reported that the low-end price of admission was $50,000. For a photo op with Walz and inclusion in the “VIP reception,” attendees had to cough up no less than $75,000.
The event where Rock was said to have spent most of his time with former “Saturday Night Live” producer Marci Klein came weeks after Biden had faced an uneasy crowd mere days after his disastrous debate performance. He, too, had attempted to portray himself as an average American with a Waffle House photo op before absconding to a celebrity fundraiser in the Hamptons only for some to voice their concerns about the viability of his campaign and their money.

Entertainment for the fundraiser was reportedly provided by Mumford & Sons, the London-based folk-rock band that had famously parted ways with founding member Winston Marshall years earlier. Cancel culture came for the lead guitarist and banjo player for publicly announcing he was reading investigative journalist Andy Ngô’s book “Unmasked: Inside Antifa’s Radical Plan to Destroy Democracy.”
“Congratulations @MrAndyNgo. Finally had the time to read your important book. You’re a brave man,” wrote the musician, prompting severe backlash on social media at the time.
Since he departed from the band, Marshall has remained outspoken on his beliefs and excoriated elitists like California Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D) during an Oxford Union debate earlier in 2024. “‘Populism’ has become a word used synonymously with ‘racist.’ We’ve heard ‘ethno-nationalist,’ we have ‘bigot,’ we have ‘hillbilly,’ ‘redneck,’ we have ‘deplorable.’ Elites use it to show their contempt for ordinary people.”
After referencing a change in the use of the term by none other than former President Barack Obama and highlighting selective outrage over the Jan. 6 breach of the U.S. Capitol but little regard for the BLM riots of 2020, he went on to assert, “Today, particularly in America, the globalist left have become the establishment. I suppose for Ms. Pelosi to have taken this side of the motion, she’d be arguing herself out of a job.”
“Ladies and gentlemen, populism is the voice of the voiceless,” stated Marshall. “The real threat to democracy is from the elites.”
Page Six indicated that, while Harris herself currently had no announced events in the Hamptons but was expected to attend a New York City fundraiser in the fall, her husband, Doug Emhoff, was expected to join Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo at an event on Aug. 31.
