House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries had better things to do than attend the congressional vigil for Charlie Kirk.
One might think that, in the interest of demonstrating unity and cooling national tensions, Democrats and Republicans would join forces to celebrate the life of a man who was killed while having an honest discussion with a crowd in Utah. But alas, one would be wrong.

Jeffries was asked why more Democrats weren’t present at the event, with only a handful of them being seen standing alongside GOP lawmakers.
“I don’t know,” he said dismissively. “I guess you’d have to talk to the individual Democrats as to what else was going on and why they were present or why they weren’t present.”
When asked why he wasn’t at the Kirk vigil on Tuesday, Jeffries simply said: “I had a meeting.”
According to Fox News, the Democrats in attendance were “Reps. Tom Suozzi, D-N.Y., Marie Gluesenkamp Perez, D-Wash., John Larson, D-Conn., Jimmy Panetta, D-Calif., Debbie Dingell, D-Mich., Chris Pappas, D-N.H., and Don Davis, D-N.C.” The senior Democrat leadership, however, was nowhere to be seen.
House Speaker Mike Johnson was not bothered by the lack of serious participation from his colleagues.
“I honestly did not even see the composition of the group,” he replied after being asked if he was disappointed in the Democratic turnout. “I’m glad it was bipartisan, and I wish more had participated, and I’m not sure why they didn’t. So I don’t know what else we can do other than offer an all-member bipartisan vigil. And we’ve done that routinely for other things.”

Fair enough. Just have a public kneeling for Charlie, and we’ll overlook it this time. pic.twitter.com/nSvRI6DCfx

He knows his base would demand he step down if he were seen trying to calm his side down. Hakeem Jeffries is a coward.

I mean this does mean we don’t have to care about being sympathetic to Democrats…I count that as a win.
