Fox News host Sean Hannity claimed late Tuesday that there’s an effort within the GOP to recruit former President Donald Trump as the next House speaker.
“Sources telling me at this hour some House Republicans have been in contact with and have started an effort to draft former President Donald Trump to be the next speaker,” he revealed on Fox News’s “Hannity.”
“And I have been told that President Trump might be open to helping the Republican Party, at least in the short term, if necessary if it’s needed,” he added.
Listen:
Later during the broadcast, Hannity confronted House Judiciary Committee chair Jim Jordan about the matter.
“I’ve now heard from a number of people. I know for a fact Donald Trump has been contacted about possibly him being an interim speaker. Is that a reality?” he said.
“I don’t know. He’d be great, but actually, I want Donald Trump to be the next president of the United States. If he wants to be speaker, great, but I want him to be president of the United States,” Jordan replied.
“He would still run for president. He’s still going to be running for president,” Hannity pushed back.
“That’s where we need him, is at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, but if he wants to be speaker then that’s fine too,” Jordan responded.
Listen:
Alex Jones, Steve Bannon, and Newsmax have also floated the same idea, according to The Daily Beast.
“Donald Trump should be nominated as a litmus test to all these Republicans. With all the fake charges and all the fake trials, how awesome would it be to make Donald Trump speaker of the House?” Jones reportedly said Tuesday.
A few Republican congressmen have also adopted the idea:
Kevin McCarthy will NOT be running again as Speaker.
I nominate Donald J. Trump for Speaker of the House.

Rep. Matt Gaetz, the congressman responsible for former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy’s ouster, has also inconspicuously suggested Trump as a replacement.
“The MAGA firebrand told reporters Monday night that though he would support several current members of Congress for the role, he wasn’t ruling out ‘other Americans who wouldn’t necessarily need to be a member of the body to be considered for the speakership,'” The Daily Beast notes.
As for other candidates, there’s Rep. Tom Emmer, whom Gaetz reportedly suggested as a candidate last month, and of course House Minority Whip Steve Scalise, though he’s currently in the hospital battling cancer.
All this comes as anger continues to mount in the Republican Party against Gaetz for orchestrating McCarthy’s ouster.
“I thought it was unfair to Kevin. He’s a good man and he didn’t deserve this,” Jordan told CNN reporters.

Rep. Chip Roy was much more blunt.
“Some of our brothers and sisters — particularly in the, you know, MAGA camp, I think — particularly enjoy the circular firing squad. You want to come at me and call me a RINO, you can kiss my ass. You go around talking your big game and thumping your chest on Twitter. Come in my office and have a debate, mother,” he said.

Anger has also been seen on Fox News.
“Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich told Sean Hannity that the Republicans who had voted to oust McCarthy from office were ‘traitors,’ and that all eight ‘should be primaried, they should all be driven out of public life,'” according to Rolling Stone magazine.
“He hates Kevin McCarthy, and I think it’s disgraceful, and I hope they expel him from the conference,” he reportedly said.
Jeanine Pirro also expressed anger on Fox News’ “The Five.”
“I’m furious. First of all, we’re without a speaker. This is historic. Something like this hasn’t happened in well over 100 years. And now, what we’ve got is total chaos when the Republicans are playing out their infighting on national television in a historic way instead of fighting Joe Biden’s policies. The one time we are up in virtually every metric as it relates to the Biden administration, you’ve got the Republicans going out there and showing how dysfunctional they are as Matt Gaetz is engaging in fundraising,” she said.
“And I got to tell you something. I am furious. There’s no question that this is something that they have been trying to do for almost nine months that McCarthy’s been speaker. And the truth is that they’ve done a lot in Congress. They’ve got a lot of bills passed, the fact that the Senate doesn’t want to take them. They’ve done a lot in terms of oversight. And, you know, now you’ve got the Democrats — this is the crazy thing — Democrats who hate the MAGA Republicans are now joining with the MAGA Republicans to oust Speaker McCarthy. This is like the devil is in the middle of all of this chaos and Donald Trump is right. Why are the Republicans fighting with each other like this?” she added.
