Hard-hitting new DeSantis ad vows to secure the border: ‘NO EXCUSES’

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is set to unveil his immigration policy on Monday and a new ad from his campaign previewed the tough new approach with a focus on the current regime’s failed policies, and their deadly consequences as well as a subtle jab at his top GOP competitor.

The rising Republican star was in Texas on Sunday where he toured the porous southern border in advance of a speech at Eagle Pass, an area that has been among the hardest hit by the illegal alien invasion that has exploded under the Biden administration, with illegal immigration expected to be one of the top issues in the upcoming GOP debates.

In the ad, ominous music is accompanied by news-style commentary, and as President Joe Biden and absentee border czar Vice President Kamala Harris’s heads are briefly shown, the spot states, “The border is a complete disaster,” a monumental understatement considering the chaos since Biden took office.

“Every year it just keeps getting worse and worse,” the ad states, pointing out the flow of “dangerous criminals” and “deadly drugs” into the country under Biden and Harris, and the grim toll of tens of thousands of Americans who have died from poisonous fentanyl – much of it from China – that is coming across the border.

“Every day, Americans are less and less safe,” the ad says, showing the number of pounds of fentanyl that has already been seized this year as well as the number of border crossers on the terrorist watch list who have been apprehended.

“A growing humanitarian crisis at the southern border,” a news reporter is heard saying in the spot. “The drugs coming across the border here are fueling an unprecedented epidemic across the country, the toll of which can be counted in the skyrocketing number of overdose deaths,” another reporter’s voice adds.

“What has been happening under President Biden’s watch is that so many immigrants think it will be easier to enter the United States,” another newsperson’s voice says.

“We will secure the border. We will stop the cartels. We will build the wall. We will stop the invasion,” the ad reads. “NO EXCUSES,” an implication that Trump didn’t deliver on his promises.

In another tweet from Team DeSantis, this one posted on Sunday night, a clip is seen of Trump speaking pledging that if elected, his administration will “carry out the largest domestic deportation operation in American history.”

“Trump ran on this same promise in 2016, but ended up deporting fewer illegals than Barack Obama,” the tweet from DeSantis War Room states, “The Trump administration deported only around one-third as many illegal immigrants from the interior than the Obama administration during its first four fiscal years,” with a link to an article from the Migration Policy Institute that Trump came up short on deportations.

“Joe Biden’s open border policies have destroyed our sovereignty, and Ron DeSantis will not rest until it is restored. He will stop the invasion and secure the border once and for all, and there will be no excuses,” DeSantis campaign spokesman Andrew Romeo said in a statement.
