Hours before the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) issued a temporary pause on non-urgent vehicle stops, agents from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) had an encounter with the occupants of a vehicle in St. Augustine, Florida.
It was then that one of the four occupants of the vehicle stopped in a Wawa parking lot, a 28-year-old Mexican national, fled the scene only to be struck by a tractor-trailer. While the truck driver was said to have stopped immediately and attempted to render aid, the man succumbed to his injuries.
“On July 14, DHS law enforcement conducted an operation near St. Johns, Florida. Florida Highway Patrol and HSI are investigating an incident resulting in the death of a Mexican national. We will provide an update when available,” a statement from DHS detailed.
Formerly with ICE, First Coast News crime and safety expert Mark Baughman said with the limited information available, “These could have been four workers waiting to meet somebody to go to a job site, or they could have been four individuals involved in some illegal activity.”
“There should be an investigation done, and there should be total transparency. There needs to be reasons why you’re trying to apprehend these people, what violations they committed.”
Tuesday’s incident came hours before a pause on non-urgent vehicle stops was ordered by DHS Sec. Markwayne Mullin following the most recent ICE-involved fatal shooting in Biddeford, Maine. When asked about the incident by the press outside the White House, border czar Tom Homan faulted Democrats and the media for instilling fear.
“It’s unfortunate that illegal aliens in this country, and even those who are legally in the country, have a fear from ICE because Democrat lawmakers tell them to resist. Democrat lawmakers actually have Zoom calls and team meetings on how to defy ICE, how to evade ICE,” he said.
Homan went on, “People think we raid elementary schools. People think we raid churches. People think we raid hospitals. Give me one example, any of you, where we’ve arrested anybody in the hospital, or we arrested anybody in elementary school, or we arrested anybody in church.”
🚨 WOW! Tom Homan just MIC DROPPED the Fake News to their faces for pushing hysteria about ICE

“The only people that violated the sanctity of a church was Don Lemon and his group,” the border czar asserted, reminding that the former CNN personality was among those charged with Conspiracy Against Right of Religious Freedom at Place of Worship and Injure, Intimidate, and Interfere with Exercise of Right of Religious Freedom at Place of Worship for his alleged involvement in the storming of Cities Church in St. Paul, Minnesota in January.
“But when they keep putting these false stories out, it does put fear in the immigrant community. And I’ll say it again,” added Homan, “if you’re in the country illegally, you should be concerned — ’cause we’re looking for you.”
