Here it comes! Dems warn same-sex marriage is ‘certainly’ in jeopardy after Roe v. Wade opinion

In another epic example of CNN failing to read the room, the embattled network met the news of a leaked Supreme Court decision with appearances by Jeffrey Toobin on air to discuss the topic.

Toobin’s reaction to the possible end of Roe v. Wade left many mocking him and CNN for the poor optics as well his hot take warning that same-sex marriage could be on the chopping block as well.

A leaked draft of a Supreme Court majority opinion that appeared to overturn the 1973 abortion law ignited Monday evening’s news shows and Toobin wasted no time raising the alarm about the future of same-sex marriage in the nation. The lawyer and CNN legal analyst who amazingly returned on air at the network despite being caught in 2020 masturbating during a work Zoom call appeared on “Don Lemon Tonight” to react to the unprecedented leak of the draft opinion.

“What other cases have been decided based on these precedents that could now be in jeopardy?” host Don Lemon asked Toobin.

“Same-sex marriage is, certainly,” he replied. “This came up a lot during the confirmation hearings of Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson. It is quite clear that the Republican majority — the Republican politicians, at least, feel like this is the time to roll back a whole series of opinions that were passed when the Supreme Court had a very different majority.”

Naturally, he found a way to incorporate former President Donald Trump into the discussion.

“This should not be a surprise,” Toobin said. “When Donald Trump ran for president in 2016, he could not have been more explicit. He said over and over again, ‘I will appoint justices to the Supreme Court who will vote to overturn Roe v. Wade.’”

“And what I think he meant by that was he was going to appoint justices to the Supreme Court who will vote to overturn Roe v. Wade. And if this leak is accurate – and I have every reason to believe that it is – that’s precisely what happened,” he added.

“And, you know, when Democrats have tried to call attention to this, people have said, ‘Oh, they’re overreacting. They’re panicking. It’s not true. Roe v Wade’s been around for 50 years. No one’s ever gonna overturn it.’ Well, take a look at this. This is what Republicans and conservatives have been trying to do for decades. And it looks like they succeeded.”

CNN and Toobin set off another wave of mockery for focusing on the leak of the draft SCOTUS opinion when Toobin appeared with Anderson Cooper – and did so via a virtual video call.

“I really don’t know how the institution is going to recover,” Toobin said on “Anderson Cooper 360,” saying it is a “shattering experience for the justices.” But viewers had thoughts that they quickly shared on Twitter.

“Interviewing a guy who exposed himself on Zoom about this instead of a woman is… a choice,” wrote one Twitter user.

“How important is today’s Roe v Wade news? More important than jerking off on a Zoom,” tweeted writer and producer Krister Johnson.
