Here’s where Republicans stand following Trump’s second indictment

The Biden regime’s indictment of former President Donald J. Trump has done little to adversely impact his standing with voters according to a new poll showing that his support from Republicans actually went up despite his mounting legal woes.

The embattled GOP frontrunner faces the possibility of spending his remaining days in a prison cell after the unprecedented 37-count federal indictment by Special Counsel Jack Smith, a man looking to go down in history as the one who finally took down Trump after years of failed attempts by others. And while he may succeed in wielding a corrupt, weaponized legal system as a tool to swing the election to Joe Biden, Republican sentiment firmly remains with the ex-POTUS.

According to the new Marist Poll survey, the Smith indictment has 56 percent of Americans – with the majority being Democrats and independents – believing that Trump should end his campaign with 43 percent thinking that he should continue his quest to return to the White House.

The poll also shows continuing strong support for Trump among Republicans with 83 percent firmly behind his presidential run, with 87 percent of Democrats and 58 percent of independents wanting him to call it quits.

An overwhelming majority of 76 percent of Republicans have a favorable opinion of Trump regardless of his legal issues, up from 68 percent recorded in a February poll.

The former president also saw a boost from Republicans with 50 percent believing that he didn’t do anything wrong, a 5-point uptick from 45 percent in a poll in March.

The poll also shows that 64 percent of Republicans and GOP-leaning independents will support Trump if he stays in the race with 32 percent saying that they’ll support another candidate.

“As former President Trump deals with his latest legal woes, Republicans are mostly standing with him, while Democrats are calling for him to exit the 2024 campaign,” Director of the Marist Institute for Public Opinion Lee M. Miringoff said. “Time will tell if this pattern holds, but for now, Republicans are grounded on where they stand on Trump regardless of these unfolding events.”

On Friday, Trump took to his Truth Social platform to commemorate the eight-year anniversary of his famous trip down the escalator at Trump Tower and into history.

“TODAY IS THE EIGHT YEAR ANNIVERSARY OF THE FAMOUS “TRIP” (to put it mildly!) DOWN THE “GOLDEN ESCALATOR” IN TRUMP TOWER WITH THE THEN FUTURE FIRST LADY OF THE UNITED STATES, MELANIA. WHAT AN INCREDIBLE JOURNEY IT HAS BEEN, & WHAT A TREMENDOUS SUCCESS OUR GREAT COUNTRY HAD, WITH NO INFLATION, THE GREATEST ECONOMY & STRONGEST (“THE WALL”) BORDER EVER, THE BIGGEST TAX & REGULATION CUTS, THE BEST EMPLOYMENT NUMBERS IN AMERICAN HISTORY, THE REBUILDING OF OUR MILITARY & SPACE FORCE, & MUCH MORE. WOW!” Trump wrote in one of the all-caps messages that have become his common practice.

Smith’s indictment is the second this year for Trump who has also been charged by George Soros-backed Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg in a case involving an alleged “hush money” payment to the pornographic movie “actress” Stormy Daniels, a case that is likely to be a slam-dunk conviction with the jury being drawn from deep blue New York City, an area filled with Trump haters.

Trump also faces additional indictments in Atlanta and in Washington, D.C.
