When Elon Musk, the world’s richest man, made his move to acquire Twitter and take the company private, citing concerns about free speech on what he sees as the equivalent of the public town square, the left had a full-on meltdown. Chief among their fears, it seems, is that Musk would allow former President Donald Trump to come back.
Trump was banned, supposedly for life, after the Jan. 6 protest at the U.S. Capitol, and he recently told Fox News about the possibility of being reinstated, “I am not going on Twitter, I am going to stay on TRUTH. I hope Elon buys Twitter because he’ll make improvements to it and he is a good man, but I am going to be staying on TRUTH.”
“I think it is good. We want liberty and justice and fairness in our country, and the more we can have open, the better,” he added. “But no, I don’t view that as a competition for what I am doing.”
The former president had not posted on his own social media platform, TRUTH, since an early introductory post, but Devin Nunes, the CEO of the Trump Media and Technology Group, promised that it was “coming soon.”
Well, soon arrived on Thursday, as Trump posted a photo of himself standing in front of his Mar-a-Lago property in Palm Beach, Florida. The caption read: “HE’S BACK! #COVFEFE.”

The hashtag is a play on a May 2017 tweet that Trump posted, before deleting — the tweet, which went viral, even achieving iconic status, read: “Despite the constant negative press covfefe.”
Market Watch reported that shares of Digital World Acquisition Corp., the special purpose acquisition company buying the company behind Trump’s Truth Social, “soared in after-hours trading Thursday after Trump posted a message on the platform for the first time in months.” DWAC shares shot up more than 25 percent late Thursday.
Ironically, the #COVFEFE hashtag took off on Twitter on Thursday as well… here are a couple of samples of some of the responses:
