Panelists on “The Five” ripped President Joe Biden’s plans for a speech on “preserving and protecting our Democracy” Wednesday, saying he has “nothing else to run on.”
“President Biden will be giving a last-minute speech later tonight on preserving and protecting our democracy because he’s got nothing else to run on,” co-host Jesse Watters said. “Biden flipping back a few chapters in his playbook to the one about MAGA Republicans being evil and only his party can save the soul of the nation.”
Biden’s speech comes six days before the Nov. 8 midterm elections, with Democrats facing a potential red wave. A CNN poll showed Republicans had a 4% lead on the generic congressional ballot, as did a poll by Quinnipiac, while a NPR/PBS/Marist poll reported that Republicans had a 3% lead on the generic ballot.
“I think they got some numbers overnight,” Dana Perino, a former White House press secretary, said. “They saw that Barack Obama is out there are the only one getting crowds, the only one getting Democrats somewhat excited to come see them but then they realize that he’s not on the ballot.”

Perino also noted that the venue for Biden’s speech, Union Station, might not help Democrats.
“Let me talk about the setting. Union Station … that was my favorite place to go when I first moved to Washington in 1995,” Perino said. “It’s absolutely beautiful, marble columns, it had the coolest food court, there was the Starbucks you could go to, fancy restaurants and do you know what it is today? A complete and total hellscape. Is has been taken over by homeless, drug addicts.”
Greg Gutfeld also questioned Biden choosing to call Republicans a threat to democracy after the Friday attack on Paul Pelosi.
“He is probably going to mention Jan. 6th because that’s all he can ever mention because he has nothing else. Jan. 6th has now become the Kevin Bacon of terrible events for Democrats. Everything could be linked to Jan. 6th,” Greg Gutfeld said. “I just hope when he brings up election deniers, which is a threat to democracy, he does include dear Hillary who already called into question 2024 so we better include that. It’s amazing how extreme the demonization has become.”
“It’s a trip. You’re watching the same people who claimed rhetoric caused the Pelosi violence,” Gutfeld continued. “Then, mere minutes later in another segment, will say Republicans are a threat to democracy.”
