Katie Couric and Jim Acosta displayed a stunning lack of self-awareness as they fretted about CBS News and CNN being turned into “propaganda arms” of the Trump administration.
Acosta and Couric, who essentially acted as mouthpieces for the Democratic Party in their legacy media roles, reacted to the latest shakeup at “60 Minutes” and potential mass layoffs coming to CNN. Their concern over “propaganda” triggered a wave of mocking reactions on social media, where many X users wondered if they were watching a parody.

“And so it sounds as though to me that the wheels have come off over at CBS and Barry Weiss only has herself to blame,” Acosta said as the pair discussed the firing of correspondent Sharyn Alfonsi by Bari Weiss, editor-in-chief of CBS News.
“And that they’re going to try to translate this ideological experiment over to CNN,” Acosta continued. I’m very worried about what’s taking place right now because now it looks like it’s a fait accompli that Paramount is going to be able to gobble up Warner Brothers Discovery, the parent company of CNN, and that you’re going to have what is essentially the makings of a propaganda giant in this country.”
The former CNN host went on to invoke his and Couric’s experiences in voicing his concerns.
“What concerns me so much about this is that you and I have been in this business long enough to know we haven’t had that before in this country.
And folks might say, ‘Oh, it’s a bit hyperbolic to say, oh, it’s gonna be propaganda and so on,'” Acosta said.
“Well, we have Fox News. Wouldn’t you call that?” Couric asked with a straight face.
“But I think Fox is a different animal in that we kind of already are living with it and have been living with it for some time,” Acosta replied. “Whereas you were taking two news organizations, CBS and CNN, that had been basically operating as you know regular tried-and-true news divisions, and in fact trying to turn them into propaganda arms of the Trump administration.”
Social media users blasted Couric and Acosta’s deliberate disregard of the propaganda from CNN and CBS News over the years.
