House lawmaker introduces resolution to award Trump a Congressional Gold Medal

Former President Donald Trump could be awarded the Congressional Gold Medal if House Republicans have their way.

A group of GOP lawmakers in the House are backing a bill introduced by Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-Fla.) that would award the presumptive Republican nominee “in recognition of his exceptional leadership and dedication to strengthening America’s diplomatic relations during his presidency.”

House GOP Deputy Whip Guy Reschenthaler of Pennsylvania, and Reps. Lauren Boebert of Colorado, Andy Ogles of Tennessee, Randy Weber of Texas and Mike Waltz of Florida are backing Luna’s effort which is co-sponsored by House Freedom Caucus Chairman Bob Good, R-Va.

“President Trump’s fearless leadership reestablished America as a respected and admired global power,” the Florida congresswoman told Fox News Digital.

“It is time we recognize a president who put our country first and secured global peace through bold diplomacy. Despite the liberal media’s attempts to spread fear, America and the world were undoubtedly safer under President Donald Trump. One of our duties in Congress is to honor those who have contributed significantly to our nation, and that’s why I’m introducing this legislation,” she added.

Trump’s foreign policy achievements, including establishing the Abraham Accords and his historic meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un are some of the triumphs listed in the bill. No president since Ronald Reagan in 2000 has been granted the medal which is the highest civilian award in the nation, along with the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

“President Trump did more in four years on behalf of the American people than any president in my lifetime. He secured our border, achieved historic peace in the Middle East, and implemented policies that helped our economy prosper,” said Rep. Good who ruffled feathers in the Trump camp when he initially endorsed Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis in the primaries before backing Trump.

“The last three years of a failed Biden administration have only served as a stark contrast to President Trump’s record,” he added.

Oglessaid that Trump’s “statesmanship and excellent presidential leadership has inspired fervency and love of country in millions of Americans.”

“Congress would be remiss not to recognize him,” he said. “The Trump presidency ushered in peace worldwide as he prioritized peace through strength rather than endless foreign wars. Trump’s contributions to the American heritage and stalwart defense of the American way of life cannot be understated. I am proud to join my colleagues in honoring President Donald J. Trump’s incredible leadership and dedication to America.”

Weber declared that “every patriotic American knows our country was unequivocally better off four years ago under his stewardship.”

While Republicans in the House may be able to get the bill through, it is highly unlikely the Democrat majority in the Senate will let it see the light of day.
