Houston teacher reduced to tears over senior students inability to read, write

Darius Williams, who teaches at Houston Independent School District’s Wheatley High School, was reduced to tears of frustration in a video he shared on social media.

The video, prompted by his students’ poor literacy skills, was posted on the second day of the new school year and serves as an indictment of education in America, where left-wing indoctrination takes priority in many classrooms over educating students.

“I just finished a three-hour class, and I literally broke down in front of a class because — I’m teaching seniors, these kids are leaving high school and going to college, hopefully, after they finish,” a teary-eyed Williams said in the video he recorded during his lunch break on Tuesday. “We had two paragraphs to read, one sentence complete to write. I gave them the sentence stems.”

“I basically completed the sentence for them, in the model,” he continued, tears steaming down his face. “These are 17- and 18-year-old kids, and they couldn’t fill in four words. Four words!”

“I gave them the scenario, we annotated together. I gave them the answers before we even had the problem and they couldn’t do it,” the teacher said. “I don’t know. I simply don’t know where the problem is. This is only day two, and I have seniors who simply cannot read and seniors who cannot write. They cannot write.”

Williams explained that his students can reason and defend their reasoning when talking to their “homeboys,” but cannot do so in writing.

“Our young black men, our young brown men, our young black girls, and our young brown girls,” Williams said, before stopping the video as his emotions got the better of him.

Public schools have been in decline for years. Parents who are able, choose private schools or homeschooling, leaving low-income students trapped in a caldron of failure, where left-wing ideology and LGBTQ+ rights, including gender transitioning, are prioritized.

Many of these students will go on to make up the base of today’s Democratic Party — here’s a sampling of responses to the story, as seen on X:
