Hunter Biden’s plea deal doomed by fear Trump would be elected and revoke it

Hunter Biden’s plea deal came unraveled because his attorneys reportedly were paranoid that Trump could be re-elected and then revoke the first son’s probation, according to a new report.

Former President Trump has blasted the sweetheart deal struck between Hunter Biden and the Justice Department in June on two tax misdemeanors and one gun felony, essentially giving him a slap on the wrist. The first son would only get probation and no jail time. A whole slew of Republicans also decried the deal.

The plea deal appeared to collapse on Wednesday in a Delaware courtroom as a judge severely questioned the constitutionality of it. The deal was eventually put on hold for further review and revision while Hunter Biden entered a “not guilty” plea. The first son was instructed by the judge to keep his nose clean, submit to random drug tests, and get a job.

Trump appointee Judge Maryellen Noreika was extremely concerned over a provision that would give her sole authority to assess Hunter Biden’s adherence to the terms of his probation.

“Typically, the Justice Department could independently verify such a breach and bring charges. But Mr. Biden’s team, concerned that the department might abuse that authority if former President Donald J. Trump was re-elected, successfully lobbied to give that power to Judge Noreika herself, arguing that she would be a more neutral arbiter,” The New York Times reported.

“But Judge Noreika suggested that such an arrangement could be unconstitutional because it might give her prosecutorial powers, which were vested in the executive branch by the Constitution,” the media outlet continued.

“‘I’m not doing something that gets me outside my lane of my branch of government,’ said the judge, who repeatedly complained that both sets of lawyers viewed her as a ‘rubber stamp’ rather than someone working to make the agreement more equitable and durable,” the New York Times further noted.

Noreika ordered defense attorneys and federal prosecutors to submit more paperwork justifying the legal legitimacy of both the plea deal, as well as a separate agreement for prosecutors to dismiss a weapons felony.

She also ordered both parties to clarify language that could grant Hunter Biden immunity for potential future prosecution related to his foreign investment and consulting work that has made him millions of dollars over the past decade.

Plea deals usually sail through court and although it is common for them to fall apart at some point, this particular plea deal has tremendous political implications not only for the first son but for President Biden.

The White House immediately issued a statement on the hot mess following the Wednesday court fiasco.

“Hunter Biden is a private citizen and this was a personal matter for him. As we have said, the President, the First Lady, they love their son and they support him as he continues to rebuild his life,” White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre contended, attempting to distance the president from his son, which spectacularly failed.

“This case was handled independently, as all of you know, by the Justice Department under the leadership of a prosecutor appointed by the former president, President Trump. So for anything further, as you know, and we’ve been very consistent from here, I’d refer you to the Department of Justice and to Hunter’s representatives, who is his legal team, obviously, who can address any of your questions,” she told reporters, sidestepping the issue.
