‘I told him not to take on the world!’ Elon Musk with his mom at the Met Gala is priceless

In what amounts to his first public outing since acquiring Twitter in a $44 billion hostile takeover bid, Elon Musk appeared on the red carpet in New York City on Monday night alongside his stylish mother, who proceeded to tell the world that the richest man on the planet does not listen to mom.

Attending the 2022 Met Gala, Musk said he was “just following the dress code” when asked about his attire — the intended theme being Gilded Glamor. The Tesla CEO also commented on his goals as owner of Twitter, assuming the deal goes through, but the highlight of the evening had to be his mother Maye, 74, a Canadian-South African model.

Speaking with Rachel Smith of “Entertainment Tonight” on the carpet at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Musk was asked about critics stating that he could have spent his money in better ways to help the world — a question the more liberal Bill Gates or Jeff Bezos seldom encounter.

After playfully feigning surprise that he has critics, Musk said, “I do do a lot of things philanthropically.”

“Really, my companies are intended to do good for the future of humanity,” he continued. “With Tesla trying to accelerate the advances in sustainable transport and energy and SpaceX is providing internet to the lesser [served] people of the world.”

“We are able to help Ukraine with the Starlink terminals and give connectivity, particularly in some of the hardest hit areas,” Musk added. “So, aspirationally, I am trying to do good for humanity and the future of civilization.”

And that’s when mom piped in.

“I told him not to take on the world and the universe and he didn’t listen. He doesn’t listen to his mom,” she quipped.

Musk was asked by La La Anthony, who was hosting Vogue’s red carpet live stream for the Met Gala 2022, about his plans for Twitter.

“My goal, assuming everything gets done, is to make Twitter as inclusive as possible and to have as broad a swathe of people on Twitter as possible,” he said. “And that it is entertaining and funny and they have as much fun as possible.”

Here are a few photos of Musk and his mother from the event that were shared on Twitter:
