Recruitment push sees 141,000 job applications. So, who exactly is ICE hiring?

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has reportedly been flooded with 141,000 applications since it started hiring more agents.

“ICE has received more than 141,000 applications from patriotic Americans who want to defend the homeland by removing the worst of the worst criminal illegal aliens from the U.S.,” Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said in a statement to Fox News.

“We have already given more than 18,000 tentative job offers. Americans are answering their country’s call to serve and help remove murderers, pedophiles, rapists, terrorists, and gang members from our country,” Noem continued.” she added.

This news comes a month after Noem announced that ICE was hiring.

“Your country is calling you to serve at ICE,” she said at the time. “In the wake of the Biden administration’s failed immigration policies, your country needs dedicated men and women of ICE to get the worst of the worst criminals out of our country.”

“This is a defining moment in our nation’s history. Your skills, your experience, and your courage have never been more essential. Together, we must defend the homeland,” she added.

Within two weeks, ICE had received over 100,000 applications.

In addition to hiring, ICE also removed its age cap.

“ICE will waive age limits for new applicants so even more patriots will qualify to join ICE in its mission to arrest murderers, pedophiles, gang members, rapists, and other criminal illegal aliens from America’s streets,” the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced in a press release.

A position with ICE comes with a maximum $50,000 signing bonus, student loan repayment and forgiveness options, enhanced retirement benefits, and more.

Meanwhile, ICE has in the past few weeks “acquired a range of new armor, drones and weaponry” ahead of another hiring surge, according to Forbes.

“Federal government contracting records from this week show ICE making over a dozen orders with Atlantic Diving Supply (ADS) for a range of goods to boost its Office of Firearms and Tactical Programs division,” Forbes reported on Wednesday.

On Tuesday specifically, ICE “requested to modify a $40 million armor contract with ADS from 2024 to support an imminent influx of new agents.”

ICE also reportedly spent $3 million on new gun sights, in addition to $550,000 on body armor.

A week earlier on Sept. 2, ICE reportedly bought “an AI-powered X10D drone made by California-based contractor Skydio.”

“X10D is a powerful drone, able to automatically track and pursue a target and ‘detect objects, vehicles, and humans’ on its own,” Forbes notes. “It comes with AI flight assistance and obstacle avoidance, making it suitable for missions inside or around buildings.”

This week ICE also reportedly spent $1.6 million to purchase handguns from Glock and $450,000 to purchase laptops for its legal team. Furthermore, ICE has upgraded and expanded its cloud infrastructure.

So who exactly is ICE hiring? All American citizens, including Bangladeshi immigrants like Mahin Ahmed, 30.

Ahmed told The New York Times that he applied to work for ICE because he’s tired of “living life paycheck to paycheck” and because he’s rightly convinced that President Joe Biden’s border policies had allowed “a lot of bad people” into America.

“It’s not fair that my family has to go through a legal process, takes us about 15 to 20 years,” he said. “It’s not fair that someone can just hop across the border, have some babies, the kids become U.S. citizens.”

The Times also spoke with immigrants from Bulgaria and Nigeria who wanted to join ICE.

Meanwhile, ICE Assistant Director Matthew Elliston told Spectrum News about what the agency is seeking from its recruits.

“We could use people with language skills, people with intelligence backgrounds, we could use people with public relations backgrounds, attorneys,” he said.

He added that applicants who’ve worked in law enforcement or the military will be prioritized, though everybody is ultimately welcome to apply and give it a shot.
