Illegal immigrant accused of 17 rapes was deported 8 times before

An accused illegal alien serial rapist in Nevada who reportedly kept his victims’ underwear as trophies has backed out of a plea deal.

Mexican illegal alien Carlos Nava, 49, originally pleaded guilty via an “Alford plea” filed on July 30 to one felony charge of sexual assault with use of a deadly weapon, according to Vegas station KLAS.

The special form of plea allowed him to acknowledge that the prosecution had enough evidence to convict him without admitting guilt. Eight other charges were dropped thanks to the plea.

During Nava’s sentencing hearing about two months later, on Sept. 25, however, he suddenly rejected the plea, meaning the eight charges are back in play.

Clark County Deputy District Attorney Julia Barker doesn’t appear to believe it was a wise decision to drop the plea.

“It’s really hard for someone to maintain ‘I didn’t do this’ when his sperm is in places that indicate he probably did,” she reportedly said.

Especially when evidence points to him having victimized as many as 17 people, six of whom have already been identified, and two of whom were 15 years old at the time of the assaults.

Barker also revealed that the local police found 17 pairs of underwear in Nava’s possession that are believed to be his “trophies.”

They “were folded, kept in a backpack, which also had latex gloves in it and tied up with a rubber band,” she noted.

Most of his victims were reportedly sex workers.

“Every single time, he has a knife and in most of his situations, he is holding that knife to these individuals’ throats, then he forcibly rapes them,” Barker said.

According to KLAS, Nava has previously been deported eight times, the last of which occurred in 2020. His criminal history, meanwhile, extends all the way back to 2010.

“On February 4, 2010, a woman said that she mistakenly got into a car that she thought was her friend’s in Henderson,” according to an arrest report obtained by KLAS. “She told police that once inside the car, the man driving pulled out a knife, locked the doors, and said ‘I want sex.'”

“She also told police that the man demanded that she remove her clothes and sexually assaulted her. A healthcare worker who performed a sexual assault nurse examination told police that she believed that the alleged victim was mentally delayed,” the report continued.

In another incident that occurred on March 16, 2013, a sex worker (escort) said she was on the highway soliciting Johns when Nava pulled over and she jumped into his vehicle.

“She said the driver did not like the price that she was offering, put a knife to her throat and sexually assaulted her,” according to the arrest report. “She told police that she was scared because she did not want to go to jail for being a runaway.”

Two years later, on July 17, 2015, a woman who was searching for marijuana jumped into a car, only for the driver — Nava — to pull out a knife and sexually assault her.

When the police spoke with the victim, she said she escaped “by climbing through the driver’s side window and ran from the car naked,” according to the arrest report.

“When police showed her panties found in Nava’s possession, the woman identified a pair as the same style that she would have been wearing,” the report continued.

For the time being, Nava reportedly remains in custody at the Clark County Detention Center. A new trial is slated to be scheduled for sometime following his next court appearance on Oct. 9.
