A traffic stop turned deadly in California, leaving a community mourning the loss of a police K-9 at the hands of an illegal alien gang member.

The once-Golden State is counted among deep blue areas as one of the top refuges for illegal aliens, as its soft-on-crime policies have allowed for gangs to thrive. Now, the turned-up nose to law enforcement left Burbank Police Department K-9 Spike dead from gunshot wounds after a Salvadoran national fled police and initiated a fatal standoff.
On Nov. 22, 37-year-old Jose Domingo Ayala Alas was said to be the passenger in a vehicle pulled over just before 7 p.m. for tinted windows. The traffic stop found the Salvadoran, said by KABC to be a member of the 18th Street gang, fleeing into a residential neighborhood, prompting a search with dogs and helicopters.
According to the police, when Spike located the suspect, multiple rounds were fired, striking the K-9, who “was transported to a local emergency veterinarian but ultimately succumbed to his injuries.”

Fox News Digital confirmed with a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement source that Alas was in the country illegally. Despite negotiations and efforts to de-escalate a standoff into a peaceful surrender, shots fired at the police were met with return fire that included fatal wounds for the suspect.
As it happened, Burbank falls in the same congressional district once represented by California Sen. Adam Schiff (D) before his election to fill the vacant seat of late-Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D). It also happens to be where the open-border-advocating lawmaker claimed a homeowner’s tax exemption on a condominium while allegedly claiming primary residence in the state of Maryland, making him the focus of a criminal investigation.
Outside the Burbank Police and Fire Headquarters, members of the community built a memorial for the canine at the foot of the statue of an officer and a firefighter, which included pictures, flowers, messages, dog treats, and even a lead and ball placed in the hand of the cast policeman.

Reacting to support from locals after Spike was slain, Burbank Police Chief Rafael Quintero said in a statement, “We want to extend our deepest gratitude to our community. Your outpouring of love, compassion, and support as we mourn the loss of K9 Spike has meant more to us than words can express.”
He continued, “A heartfelt thank you to the men and women of the Burbank PD — your strength, dedication, and commitment to holding the line, especially in moments of grief, embody the true spirit of service … We are grateful to K9 Spike, who paid the ultimate sacrifice and ensured the men and women of Burbank PD returned home safe that night.”
A memorial service was scheduled for Wednesday, and a release detailed, “The procession will start at the Burbank Animal Shelter and conclude at the station, where Chief Rafael Quintero and Mayor Nikki Perez will deliver remarks. This ceremony will provide a dignified tribute honoring Spike’s service, sacrifice, and dedication to the City of Burbank.”
We’ve received a few questions about the location of tomorrow’s ceremony. It will take place in front of the Police & Fire Headquarters, not at the animal shelter. We hope to see you there! pic.twitter.com/qnBlLSJFql
