An Illinois police officer was fired after an investigation into social media posts aimed at Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
The city of Elgin terminated Officer Jason Lentz for violation of department policies regarding posts that suggest ICE should investigate certain locations in the city for illegal immigrants. Yes, that’s right, a city officer was fired for pointing federal authorities in the direction of potential criminals within his own city.

Elgin Police Chief Ana Lalley had reportedly been made aware of the posts on Oct. 15, 2025, and the next day Lentz was placed on administrative leave.
“Lalley determined that termination was the appropriate disciplinary action following a review of the investigative findings. The decision was approved by the city’s corporation counsel and city manager,” ABC7 Chicago reported.
“Lentz’s termination for misconduct is warranted and necessary to uphold standards the community expects and deserves. His actions do not reflect the standards of this agency. I ask the Elgin community to not judge our current and future officers based on the actions of one individual. The department remains committed to working with all members of the community to build lasting and meaningful relationships grounded in respect, understanding, accountability and trust. These values have not, and will not, change,” the chief said in a statement.
City Manager Rick Kozal backed Lalley’s decision in a statement of his own.
“I wholly support Chief Lalley’s decision to terminate Lentz as a police officer. I was among those in the city administration demanding Lentz’s firing in 2014 for similar misconduct. While an arbitrator ultimately overturned the city’s decision to fire Lentz and impose a six-month suspension instead, Elgin succeeded in establishing precedent for holding police officers accountable for inflammatory social media posts before such disciplinary action became the norm.”

He can apply to ICE. They would love to have him.

I do believe he’s got a wrongful termination lawsuit to retire from coming soon

I’ve been to Elgin. As far as naming locations where you might be likely to find illegal aliens in Elgin, you could pretty much name the intersection of any two streets, and have a high probability of being right.
