Republican Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida blasted Stacey Abrams during a Tuesday night debate with Democratic Rep. Val Demings, saying she “denied her election.”
“I’ll tell you this much, I’ve never denied an election, ever… I’m not like Stacey Abrams in Georgia who denied her election,” Rubio said during the debate after the moderator asked if he would accept the results of the 2022 midterms, taking a shot at the Democratic gubernatorial nominee in Georgia, who refused to concede the 2018 gubernatorial election to Republican Brian Kemp, claiming voter suppression took place.
“This is not a speech of concession, because concession means to acknowledge an action is right, true, or proper,” Abrams said in her Nov. 16, 2018 remarks.
The debate moderator prompted the response from Rubio after referencing a Washington Post article claiming that “election deniers” are on the ballot in 48 out of 50 states.

During the debate Rubio indicated he would support the election results in November.
“No matter what the outcome is I’ll support it because Florida has good laws.” Rubio said.
The senator has also claimed that Democrats had denied elections in the past during a speech at the National Conservative Conference.
Rubio is battling Demings for a third term in the U.S. Senate.
Rubio leads Demings by seven points, according to a Spectrum News/Siena College poll conducted Sept. 18-25, with 58% of respondents saying the economy was the top issue. Rubio led by four points in a USA Today/Suffolk poll, with the economy and inflation as the top issue of concern to voters.
“I think in Florida, we have great election laws,” Rubio said.
