Alina Habba took to social media to call attention to the resignation of another highly qualified conservative U.S. Attorney.
Habba, who resigned this week as U.S. attorney for New Jersey after a panel of activist judges decided she was serving in her position unlawfully, blasted the “broken” blue slip tradition in the Senate.
“Another resignation from a well qualified US Attorney,” Habba posted. “This should not be happening. Julianne Murray was President Trump’s pick as US Attorney and [Murray] served Delaware with dignity and focus on one mission- taking down crime. The political machine is attempting to erode the basic [principles] of our Department of Justice and separation of powers due to a broken tradition in Senate and rogue judges in blue states. Enough is enough!”

The post included a lengthy statement from Murray, who was serving as Acting AG for Delaware, pointing out that she could not even get considered by the Judiciary Committee, let alone the entire Senate.
Murray also criticized the “incredibly flawed” tradition, “I naively believed that I would be judged on my performance and not politics. Unfortunately, that was not the case. The highly politicized, flawed blue slip tradition is costing Delaware a U.S. Attorney and is affecting the country as a whole.”
President Donald J. Trump appealed to Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) to do away with the blue slip tradition, which allows home-state senators to veto presidential nominees to district courts and U.S. attorney offices.
“‘Blue Slips’ are making it impossible to get great Republican Judges and U.S. Attorneys approved to serve in any state where there is even a single Democrat Senator. If they say no, then it is OVER for that very well qualified Republican candidate,” Trump posted on Truth Social. “Only a really far left Democrat can be approved. It is shocking that Republicans, under Senator Chuck {Grassley], allow this scam to continue. So unfair to Republicans, and not Constitutional.”
“I am hereby asking Senate Majority Leader John Thune, a fantastic guy, to get something done, ideally the termination of Blue Slips,” he continued. “Too many GREAT REPUBLICANS are being, SENT PACKIN’. None are getting approved!!!”

Here’s a quick sampling of responses to the story, as seen on X:
The Senate’s blue-slip tradition has officially become the country’s biggest organized crime protection racket. A qualified Trump pick gets iced not because she failed, but because two senators wanted to play “I’m not touching you” with constitutional authority. It is…

Another @ChuckGrassley special. Thanks, Chucky Boy, for making America far less safe. If there is one violent criminal that escapes justice because we do not have an honest US Attorney in place that commits harm to another decent American, we-the-people will be blaming you and…

What will it take for @ChuckGrassley to understand that the era of the blue card will not be preserved by democrats when they are in power?

The @SenateGOP should be ashamed. With a handful of exceptions they are clearly anti-MAGA. We must vote them out.

This is insane! THE GOP HAS ZERO BALLS! Shame on them. I’m looking at you @ChuckGrassley!
