Iran’s alleged supreme leader Mojtaba Khamenei vowed on Saturday to avenge his slain 86-year-old father, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
The ayatollah’s son declared on social media that the revenge was the “demand of the nation.”
Khamenei, who was named successor to his father, was reportedly seriously injured in the first wave of attacks on Iran in February and has not been seen in public since. He did not attend the weeklong funeral ceremonies this past week for his father, yet “continues to lead and shape the country’s war strategy from a secure, undisclosed location,” according to NBC News.
“We pledge to avenge your pure blood and the blood of all the martyrs of these two wars by taking revenge against the criminal, disgraceful murderers. This vengeance is what our nation is demanding, and this must definitely be done,” Khamenei posted on X.

“The criminal, disgraceful murderers of the martyred Leader, whose names are fully documented from the highest to the lowest ranks, will carry their dream of a peaceful death in bed to the grave,” he said in a follow-up post.

In a Telegram post, he added, “Whether we are here or not, this will be achieved, and soon individuals among the freedom-seekers across the world will each carry out part of this divine mission.”
The threats come amid reports of intelligence about an Iranian plot to assassinate President Donald Trump, who said of the reports, “I’m their No. 1 target because they’re scum.”
In a Friday post to Truth Social, Trump threatened that hellfire would rain down from the skies if the Iranian plot succeeds.
“1000 Missiles are Locked and Loaded and aimed at the Islamic Republic of Iran, with thousands of more to immediately follow, should the Iranian Government act on its threat, pronounced in many corners of the Globe, to assassinate, or attempt to assassinate, the sitting President of the United States of America, in this case, ME!” Trump wrote. “Orders have already been given, and the U.S. Military is ready, willing, and able, for a one year period of time, subject to extension, to completely decimate and destroy all areas of Iran.”
