It begins: House Dem introduces seven articles of impeachment against Trump

An embattled Michigan Democrat nobody’s ever heard of has introduced seven articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump.

Rep. Shri Thanedar, a Democrat whom other Democrats are desperate to rid themselves of, filed the articles of impeachment on Monday.

“Donald Trump has repeatedly demonstrated that he is unfit to serve as President and represents a clear and present danger to our nation’s constitution and our democracy,” he said in a statement.

“His unlawful actions have subverted the justice system, violated the separation of powers, and placed personal power and self-interest above public service. We cannot wait for more damage to be done. Congress must act,” he added.

The articles accuse Trump of obstruction of justice and abuse of executive power, usurpation of appropriations power, abuse of trade powers, violation of First Amendment rights, the creation of an unlawful office (DOGE), bribery and corruption, and “tyrannical overreach.”

They have zero chance of making it through Congress thanks to both chambers’ Republican majority. However, the filing of articles of impeachment does foreshadow what Democrats intend to do if they regain congressional power during next year’s midterm elections.

Thanedar’s move comes about a week and a half after he initially called for Trump’s impeachment over his alleged refusal to abide by a Supreme Court order to facilitate the release of illegal alien Kilmar Abrego Garcia.

All this also comes amid a heated primary battle that has multiple Democrats hoping to oust the second-term congressman because he’s a non-black man representing a majority-black district.

“Thanedar, a wealthy former state representative and immigrant from India, has faced steady pressure and criticism from some Democrats in his district since winning a crowded nine-way primary in 2022 and securing the seat,” according to the Associated Press.

“His victory left Detroit — nearly 80% Black — without Black representation in Congress for the first time since before Charles Diggs Jr. took office in 1955,” the AP’s reporting continues.

The AP spoke with one of Thanedar’s challengers, Democrat state Rep. Donavan McKinney.

“I’m running [against him] because our community deserves to have someone fighting back against the Trump-Musk administration who knows our struggles, someone who has lived those struggles and will fight for us with the urgency that this moment demands,” he said.

McKinney is backed by the Justice Democrats, which is the “progressive” group that helped launch the careers of the Democrats’ so-called “Squad.”

Some critics believe Thanedar’s decision to file articles of impeachment against Trump was motivated entirely by the primary battle he’s facing.

Regardless, critics generally agree that this effort by Thanedar is as much of a joke as Democrats’ previous impeachment witch hunts against Trump.
