‘It’s a big shift’ — Trump goes full in on Ukraine

A U.N. week meeting came with a “big shift” from President Donald Trump on the Russia-Ukraine war as he dubbed one a “paper tiger” and predicted borders could expand for the other.

Dignitaries from around the world descended upon New York City this week for the annual meeting of the United Nations General Assembly. Following his address, the president’s meetings with various world leaders included talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy before suggesting Russia was destined for failure.

“After getting to know and fully understand the Ukraine/Russia Military and Economic situation and, after seeing the Economic trouble it is causing Russia, I think Ukraine, with the support of the European Union, is in a position to fight and WIN all of Ukraine back in its original form,” the chief executive expressed in a lengthy post on Truth Social.

“With time, patience, and the financial support of Europe and, in particular, NATO, the original Borders from where this War started, is very much an option,” added Trump. “Why not?”

When speaking with reporters, Zelenskyy commented on the president’s post and said, “It’s a big shift. This post of Trump it’s a big shift. Very positive,” a point that was seconded by South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham (R) who referred to the statement as a “gamechanger” while also lauding the chief executive for economic pressures on nations that continue to “buy cheap Russian oil and gas like China, India and Brazil.”

The Ukrainian president also sat down with Fox News’ Bret Baier and suggested Trump, “understands, for today, that we can’t just swap territories. It’s not fair,” while the American president had himself noted during a meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron that his past relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin, “didn’t mean anything unfortunately.”

Talk of borders wasn’t all that the commander-in-chief brought up in his post, as he also suggested the extended battle made Russia look like a “paper tiger” instead of a “Real Military Power.”

“When the people living in Moscow, and all of the Great Cities, Towns, and Districts all throughout Russia, find out what is really going on with this War, the fact that it’s almost impossible for them to get Gasoline through the long lines that are being formed, and all of the other things that are taking place in their War Economy, where most of their money is being spent on fighting Ukraine, which has Great Spirit, and only getting better, Ukraine would be able to take back their Country in its original form and, who knows, maybe even go further than that!” said Trump who contended that Putin and his nation “are in BIG Economic trouble, and this is the time for Ukraine to act.”

As the president reminded that NATO would continue to be supplied with weapons from the United States, “for NATO to do what they want with them,” he said, “Yes, I do,” when asked during his meeting with Zelenskyy if he believes “NATO countries should shoot down Russian aircraft if they enter their airspace?” amid continued reports of Russian drones violating sovereign air space.

Even before returning to the White House, negotiations between Russia and Ukraine are leveraged toward working out other deals, and it appears that the president’s latest remarks are no different.

NBC News reported that, according to a senior administration official, Trump’s comments were meant to exert “maximum public pressure on Russia to get them to the table for a deal,” and what happens next will be based on Russia’s response.

Later Tuesday, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt joined Fox News’ “Jesse Watters Primetime” where she said that the president has “been increasingly frustrated with both sides of this war for a very long time, but most recently, he’s been incredibly frustrated with President Putin and Russia, who continue to talk nice, but then we wake up every morning, and in the West Wing, we’re receiving reports about how Russia bombed Ukraine and they continue to kill innocent civilians.”
