‘It’s infuriating!’ NJ gym owner jailed over lockdown responds to WaPo’s study vindicating him – 3 years late

New Jersey gym owner Ian Smith, who was forced to break into his own establishment to reopen after authorities boarded up the entrance during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, appeared on Fox News’s “Tucker Carlson Tonight” to express his infuriation over The Washington Post reporting nearly three years later that a new study “found that exercise, in almost any amount, reduced people’s risks of being hospitalized or dying of Covid.”

Host Tucker Carlson opened the segment by noting that Americans are finally starting to see some honesty about the pandemic, including the admission that vaccinated people, not unvaccinated, now make up the majority of deaths from Covid. He brought on Smith, who became one of the faces of the resistance to government overreach when he was arrested for defying lockdown orders, to ask him how he feels about the WaPo article.

“It’s infuriating,” Smith said. “It was something we knew all along. I read this article and they call it an ‘eye-opening study.’ Nothing about this study is groundbreaking in any sense. In fact, it’s elementary school-level knowledge. When I was in third grade, I was taught that exercising and eating right meant I’d be healthy and not get sick. We all knew that going into 2020.”

“For some reason, the established science was wiped clean and replaced by, you know, the experts of Covid, who did pretty much everything the opposite,” he continued. “You know, you said casinos and bars were open, gyms and churches were closed. They even closed parks and oceans. All of these things we know have a great benefit on your health, not just in respect to Covid, but in health overall.”

Even more problematic was the adherence to policies even after it became clear they were not effective — even today, some areas in the country are going back to masks.

“We watched Americans’ health decline over the last two years, while the government would not step back on these restrictions and held on to them in places like New Jersey and California, and other blue states, for as long as they possibly could, even when all the science had been concluded,” Smith said.

Carlson followed up by asking Smith about the motive behind these actions: “Why would you continue to sell alcohol but not let people exercise, in the name of health? Like why?”

“I think that we have to start asking that question,” Smith replied, “and the American people need to start looking at Covid protocol and the reaction to Covid as a crime scene, not a series of mistakes by the government.”

In closing out the segment, Carlson prompted a big smile from his quest when he said, “Ian Smith, I appreciate you coming on tonight. Glad you’re not in jail.”
