Jamaal Bowman: Black people suffering from cancer, obesity and heart problems because of the N-Word

Disgraced former New York Rep. Jamaal Bowman dubiously claimed on Wednesday that black people suffer worse health outcomes because of other people’s usage of the n-word.

Bowman made the ridiculous assertion while speaking on CNN about “America’s original sin and its disease of hate and racism towards black and brown people.”

“You can’t be calm about this!” he screeched. “I’m a black man in America! The reason why heart disease — listen to what I’m saying. The reason why heart disease and cancer and obesity and diabetes are bigger in the black community is because of the stress we carry from having to deal with being called the N-word directly or indirectly every day.”

Listen:

Turning to former Trump White House official Marc Short, he then added, “If your colleagues would listen and try to learn and engage and grow and stop being so hateful, we could have a better country. But unfortunately, we’re still here.”

While it’s true that black people do face worse health outcomes, the evidence strongly suggests it’s because of the bad choices they make regarding exercise and nutrition.

For example, a 2023 U.S. Health Department study found that black high school students were “50% more likely to be obese than non-Hispanic white peers.” Black adults were similarly “30% more likely to be obese.”

In response to Bowman’s claim, social media users were not convinced, and many wondered why black leaders like Bowman continue to peddle such absurd narratives instead of discussing the truth and promoting good behavior like self-discipline and personal responsibility.

“It has to do with their life style, diet, lack of exercise and living conditions,” one critic tweeted. “Its the same for all cultures, He shouldn’t make statements like this with no science to back it up. He’s feeding a race baiting divide. Feeding Racism. He should be ashamed.”

Critics also noted that the most frequent users of the n-word are other black people, particularly rappers.

Later during the segment, Bowman doubled down on his foolishness by claiming that some balding “white dude” had harassed him on the streets just the other day.

“I was walking down the street the other day, [and] some white dude, bald head tipped, he looked me, called me a piece of shit to my face, said, I’m going to get what’s coming to me,” Bowman claimed. “Why do I deal with that?”

Listen:

This claim sparked as much disbelief as his previous one.

“This story requires us to believe two things,” conservative commentator Matt Walsh tweeted. “First, that someone recognized Jamaal Bowman walking down the street.”

“Second, that Jamaal Bowman was verbally harassed and didn’t pull out his phone immediately to document it. The first thing is difficult to believe. The second is impossible. In summary, Jamaal Bowman is full of shit,” he added.
