Democrat Party strategist James Carville has warned his party to tone down the elation and get real going into the 2024 presidential election.
Appearing on MSNBC this Thursday, he said that he understands the excitement now that Vice President Kamala Harris is running for president instead of President Joe Biden but warned that hard work lies ahead.
“I have to be the skunk at the garden party,” he said. “This is too triumphalist, ok? This is — everybody’s giddy. I look at the coverage and it’s great.”
“[But] get ready,” he continued. “They’re coming, all right? And it’s good. Everybody should feel good and liberated and everything else. But if we don’t win the election we haven’t done anything. This kind of giddy elation is not gonna be very helpful much longer ’cause that’s not what we’re gonna be faced with.”

Responding to Carville, MSNBC host Ari Melber displayed several swing state polls showing Harris trailing former President Donald Trump less than Biden had been trailing him.
“There is no doubt that the polling has gotten better and it’s kind of 45-45,” Carville replied. “But it’s still the same country, all right? It might be a different mood.”
He added that Republicans are soon going to “get their sea legs” and go full throttle against Harris.
“And all I’m doing is saying, watch out, people,” he said. “Don’t get too far out there. If we don’t win this, all this good feeling is gonna evaporate and gonna be all for naught.”
Appearing on MSNBC, his favorite network, a day earlier, Carville issued the same point.
“This has been a real change in mood in the party and around the country, but we got to be a little careful,” he said. “There’s about ten percent too much triumphalism going on, and you know, it’s going to be a very difficult race.”
“It’s going to be very close, and I understand that people are feeling a lot better, and they’re excited. But that excitement has got to be tempered with realism, and the realism is she has a tough campaign on, and as you say, she’s got several things she’s got to accomplish at the same time,” he added.

Carville also drew attention to the extra short timeline.
“They’re having to put a campaign together right away,” he said. “They were obviously thinking about this ahead of time, but they got to accomplish, between now and the convention, they got to accomplish what most campaigns have eight months to do.”
Continuing his remarks, Carville stressed as well that Trump commands a boatload of support.
“We also got a locked-in and entrenched opponent who’s got a large part of the country behind him who are going to pull out — and they don’t care what’s true or what’s fair or anything else — and you got to be ready for that at every point,” he said. “And all I’m saying to Democrats is, enjoy yourself, feel good, but it’s tough sledding ahead, and let’s get together and get this thing done.”
But his claim that Trump-supporting Republicans are the ones who “don’t care what’s true or what’s fair or anything else” was pure projection, as evidenced by how long the Democrat Party had spent denying President Biden’s senility.
Prior to Biden’s debate last month with Trump, Democrats and their devoted media allies had all acted like the president was an infallible, perfectly sane God who had everything going for him.
Then the moment the debate shattered that blatant lie, Democrats and their media allies all turned on Biden, demanding he exit the race and let someone younger take his place. After weeks of pushing back on the criticism, the president finally bent the knee this past weekend.
Meanwhile, with Harris now leading the race, Democrats and their media allies have been lying INCESSANTLY about her record.

Most notoriously, they’ve been falsely claiming she was never appointed a veritable border czar by President Biden. This is yet another blatant lie — an easily disprovable one at that.
