Democrats revealed who they really are during Tuesday’s elections, and it’s not a pretty revelation.
For all their fake disgust over political violence, Democrats in Virginia proved they are willing to cast aside morality to “vote blue, no matter who.” This includes electing Jay Jones, who has been wrapped up in a scandal after violent messages targeting local Republicans and their children were revealed.
Jones is enjoying a victory over incumbent Attorney General Jason Miyares, despite the texts targeting then-state House Speaker Todd Gilbert in 2022.
“Three people, two bullets. Gilbert, hitler, and pol pot, Gilbert gets two bullets to the head,” he wrote. “Spoiler: put Gilbert in the crew with the two worst people you know and he receives both bullets every time.”
“If those guys die before me, I will go to their funerals to piss on their graves” to “send them out awash in something,” he also wrote, referring to GOP colleagues who publicly honored the memory of legislator Joe Johnson Jr.
When he was confronted privately about his penchant for wishing violence on people, Jones didn’t back down.
“Yes, I’ve told you this before. Only when people feel pain personally do they move on policy,” he replied.
“I mean, do I think Todd and Jennifer are evil? And that they’re breeding little fascists? Yes,” he continued.
While the average person might find such sentiments abhorrent and counter to what they expect from an elected official, Jones is apparently exactly the kind of guy Virginia Democrats want for the job of attorney general.
Miyares wished Jones the best in his concession speech, marking a moment of refreshing goodwill in a shockingly tense race.
“I know, given the circumstances of the last six weeks, many of my supporters will find that difficult. The reason I wish Jay the best is because we, the people of Virginia, need it. We need an attorney general who will focus every day on keeping us safe,” he said.
Jones even had the gall to suggest that the Democratic Party held him “accountable” following the release of the messages, though it’s quite telling that there were no calls for him to step out of the race.
“I was held accountable,” he said. “But what we have here in Virginia right now is an attorney general who won’t hold the president accountable.”
It will be interesting to see if any additional messages are released now that Jones believes he enjoys the protection of power. The voters have proven that he can get away with whatever he wants and will not have to deal with any real consequences.
